A Fond Farewell Apr 10, 2017

Maybe the snow has hung around a little longer than some of us would like, but I’m happy to oblige one more time.

Painting this recent sunset seemed like a fine way to bid a fond farewell to winter.

Now, I’m ready for Spring.

Each month I draw two random Day in Vermont subscribers to a win a free print of their choice.

It’s one small way I’m able to say thanks for your tremendous support.

Congratulations to our April winners!

Our first winner is Margaret van den Bergh of Ludlow, Vermont. Margaret chose “The Rainy Day” and had this to say…

“I look forward to Peter’s “A Day In Vermont”. I find he frequently captures those moments in Vermont that are hard to put words to and warm the heart.

You wished to know why I love Vermont or what it means to me. Well, that made me think for sometimes I may take it for granted.  I will keep this brief.

For me, Vermont is something new around every corner and around every season. Many people leave Vermont so as to not experience mud season, but I find it fascinating and of course, the roads frustrating. I love to see Vermont starting to relax from its winter hardness. Earthy scents start emerging and all those little signs of “return” are just there for the discovering. I feel like I connect to Vermont’s nature and wild things. I love to explore its multifaceted areas, sometimes starkly different and only 20 miles apart. Vermont means home to me. Thank you for the opportunity to remind myself of that.”

Our second winner is Amy Reynolds of Jupiter, Florida. Amy chose  “Lake St. Catherine” and had this to say…

“A Day in Vermont artwork always brings me home to my childhood days in Vermont – thank you for the fond memories! Appreciate you and your work!”

We are usually in Florida until the 1st of May, but remember well the last breath of winter and the first Canadian geese over Lake Champlain in the spring. Your paintings are always a great reminder of our years on the lake and in rural Vermont. I always look forward to Monday morning and the view of Vermont through your eyes. You never let us down! Looking forward to the summer on the lake. Thank you for what you do!

Oooh and Aaah. Need I say more?

  • Brian Blaine says:

First of all, what a beautiful painting ! Second, it must have been a fun challenge to achieve such depth of field while dealing with cool color (blue) throughout near, middle, and far distances while the greatest distance of all, the sunset sky, had to be rendered in “normally” advancing warm color. Finally, the subtle glow of sunset’s hues caught by well-placed and interesting groupings of trees and grasses contributed a lot to the success of the painting.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Interesting Brian that you articulate in words very well what my thought process and concerns were in the execution of the painting. It’s sure nice to know that the result came close to my intention. Thank you!
