Casting Call May 4, 2015
The nice weather last week had me out exploring new territory.
This beautiful body of water sits right on the border between East Dorset and Manchester.
I chose a warm spot in the sun to set up and enjoy the view.
A fly fisherman arrived just in time to be included in the painting.
Don’t you love it when a plan you never had comes together?

Hooray for May!
I’ll be drawing our free print winner for May this week. If you are receiving the Day in Vermont email each week you are Subscribed and your name is in the hat. Good luck!
And just one more thing…
You may notice that this week’s painting is oil. It’s exciting for me to return to oils after a long winter of using watermedia almost exclusively.
Taking a break from one medium to fully explore another is always educational, and often energizing. I recently used some of that positive energy to attack the large oil painting below.
“Late Winter Farm” will be available at Epoch Gallery in Manchester Vermont later this week, unless someone snatches it before I can get it there. 32X38 w/Frame. $2200. Just let me know if you are interested. Contact.
What a beautiful scene, so calming. You were so lucky to catch a fly fisherman. Just made the entire picture.
We all have to count on a little luck from time to time. Tx David!
When I opened this weeks painting I said, ” Oh, It’s Lefferts Pond off of Wild Cat Rd. in Chittenden. That has been a favorite spot for our family for decades. It was not, however, I can pretend. Love it. Carol
Having painted Leffert’s, I agree they could be brother and sister. Thanks Carol!
You can almost step into the Spring landscape. Love it!
It’s finally Spring here Margaret, please be sure to stop in and say hello when you visit!
Peter showed us “Late Winter Farm” when it was still on his painting easel at his studio…it is stunning in person! The colors are rich while the textures of the paint add an incredible depth to the scene. Simply beautiful!
Thank you Marty, much appreciated. The frame and a couple of coats of varnish really kicked it up a notch.
Good thing you mentioned that “Casting Call” is an oil – it still has your signature ‘effect’ and reads just as easily as a watercolor on my computer screen. “Late Winter Farm” is stunning! Bravo!
As time goes on in my career, the medium is becoming secondary to the painting, like an instrument is secondary to the song. I just try to choose the one that best expresses and communicates the music in my heart at that moment. Or, the one that’s handy. 🙂 Thanks Betsy!
Both are so typical Vt! Beautiful! I love them
Thank you Debra!
Simply gorgeous and makes me desperately miss VT!
Hope that’s good thing Kim, Thanks!
Wow! I like the newest painting, but absolutely love the Late Winter Farm! It is so serene, using a limited palette to capture the mood and time of day too perfection. I, myself, do some painting with watercolors and acrylics. but mostly work with oils.
We could talk about the idea of “Less is More” a long time, and how important that principle is in art, and life. But alas, less is more. Thanks Brian!
Wonderful scene. Thank you
Thanks Elizabeth!
