Cornwall Barn Nov 6, 2017

This beautiful old barn is in Cornwall, where we filmed a recent painting excursion for WCAX TV.

It was an honor to be featured on their “Made in Vermont” series last week.

Many Vermont barns have been around to witness more history than any of its living residents. In this case, a sense of time’s passing and the endurance of the human spirit seem to rise from the sagging roofline and weathered siding. The barn is beautifully painted, and the foreground vegetation is so natural in appearance. Well done!

How do you find all these nice places for painting? What a pleasure to explore Vermont though your eyes. Your painting depicts also rural realitiy. This ensemble of barns is spectacular and it’s breathing the history of a hard working life.

I just follow my heart, nose, and artistic sensibility, Doris. Of course that sensibility has been honed over many years. At this point, the subjects find me as much as I find them.

Very nice recognition by WCAX…well deserved. I share your love for barns…and am always glad when I see one is being refurbished/ saved/ or the wood is being used to build furniture, etc. As a child I used to jump from rafters into the hay!! Thank you for beauty and history…

  • Charlotte Birchmore says:

I love old barns but feel such a sense of loss when they’re at the point of collapse. They’ve stood, in many cases, more than a century and deserve better. Hurts my heart.

  • Lynne Paquette says:

So great to see one of the remaining barns in my hometown, Cornwall, being painted and appreciated. Nicely done, as usual!
