Hubbardton Battlefield Jul 17, 2017
I attended the Hubbardton Battle reenactment last weekend, and what a show it was.
Last year I painted “Green Mountain Boys” along the top of the hill.
This one features Mount Zion in the background.
Apparently the Green Mountain Boys are in my blood.
Order a Print
And the winners are..
Each Month I draw two random Day in Vermont subscribers to win a free print of their choice.
It’s one small way I can say thanks for your continued support.
Our first winner for July is Carolyn Kennedy of Kalamazoo, MI. Carolyn chose “Fern Lake” and had this to say…
“I have followed A Day in Vermont for several years now, as a fan of Peter Huntoon’s art, and I’m very excited to win the monthly drawing. I have inspiring memories of our travels to Vermont – the gorgeous landscape and warm, independent people – when my son was a student at Green Mountain College. Many thanks to you, Peter, and please keep rocking it with your art! I always enjoy seeing Vermont through your eyes.”
Our second winner is Eric Mallette, of Rutland, Vermont. Eric chose “Proctor Bridge” and had this to say…
“Vermont is colorful, oft juxtaposed, alluring and is renowned for forging its own path. All qualities that can be found in a Huntoon watercolor. I’m drawn to the flow of Peters “Proctor Bridge” – your eye naturally follows the curve of Main St as it swoops over Otter Creek and dips down one of this small town’s seemingly endless supply of hills. This will proudly be hung in our new home in….PROCTOR!”
Spectacular!
Thank you very much Michele, and sorry to all for the late responses here…crazy week last week!
Love this scene. So you are a Green Mountain Boy!….you have shown it with your independence & hard work to create a wonderful art career!
Thanks Susan, yes I am happy to learn about that relation!
Again Monday morning is better because of your paintings. I so look forward to every Monday, Hope to someday visit the beautiful state of Vermont.
Thanks Karen
I hope when you do you can visit my studio. Thanks Karen!
HISTORY!! Very impressive documentation of your lineage, Peter. Great to see the green mountains in your painting and the strength of our “descendants” . Thank you for Mondays! Cynthia
Thanks Cynthia, makes my “Vermont love” that much stronger, if that were possible.
Love how you captured the scene. It’s like going back in time.
Thank you James!
I love this painting. I can almost hear the firing of the canon. Congratulations to the winners! 🙂
Thank you Melodie!
And again you add the beauty of color and sunshine in your paintings and generously share with others.
Can’t tell you what a joy to watch for each new composition. Hugs
You know it’s my pleasure Madeline. Thanks and best to Paul!
A wonderful depiction! I look forward to whatever your eye paints and am never disappointed! Thank you Peter for sharing your talents -a true gift indeed!
Thanks very much Mary!
Hi Peter, I’m
Hi Peter, my last comment is not complete. Sorry. Sometimes the technique is faster than a human using it. I see the painting and first of all I see the landscape and a second glance shows the tiny people in the meadows. I’m not informed in the history of Vermont. So, what’s the historical cause of this battlefield?
I know of what you speak Doris, especially with painting. Thank you! Here is historical info…http://www.history.com/this-day-in-history/battle-of-hubbardton
Dynamic diagonal lines add focus to the reenactment of history against a backdrop of rugged hills and valleys. A perfect companion piece to last year’s ” Green Mountain Boys “
If you were to put them on a wall together they would make a nice diptych as they would face each other. …last years piece “faces left, this aims right. I know you would pick up on that directional element Brian!
