The UVM campus is absolutely gorgeous.

Stunning architecture, long distance views, and the vibrant energies of optimistic youth.

It’s so magnificent you barely notice the icy Lake Champlain Burlington wind.

For a few minutes anyway.

I’ve wanted to paint UVM for a long time and found the perfect view on Tuesday.

Happy Anniversary!

A Day in Vermont launched two years ago today.

Wow. Time flies doesn’t it?

Since we began two years ago 4000 new friends have joined us here on A Day in Vermont, exploring the state we love and celebrating her beauty through art.

Since we began, 159 original paintings have been savored together and thanks to you, have found their way to happy homes.

It’s my sincere pleasure and privilege to share this creative adventure with you each week.

Your amazing support continues to inspire me every day.

With warmest regards and gratitude,

Peter

My niece is a UVM graduate. She is getting married in May. What a beautiful gift this would be.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

I’ll be happy to help and proud to be part of the celebration. Just let me know what you need Pat, and thanks!

  • Martin Bones says:

In first worked with Peter when I was involved in First Night Rutland. I became an instant fan of his work, and have to say that he continues to delight with the vibrancy and life that comes across so readily in his work… No mean feat give that same vibrancy come through in his winter depictions! Winters vistas in Vermont are often bleak, but Peter always shine through!

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thanks so much for the continued support Martin, yes I remember our first “First Night” together in Rutland, that was a blast creating the community painting…hard to believe it was over 10 years ago now. Wow.

  • Karen Nevin says:

Congratulations Peter! I am always excited when I see your name pop up in my email box. And I’m always jealous of the people who win the monthly drawing! I consider myself lucky to own a “Huntoon” – the beautiful painting of Historic Waitsfield Village you did a few years ago. It greets me every day when I come home. Whenever you are ready, I’d love to host you for a painting day in Moretown! Karen

    • Peter Huntoon says:

You know I do my best to deliver something worthwhile to your email each week, so glad to know it’s so well received on the other end. We all get our share of junk mail and I try to be an alternative breath of fresh Vermont air. Yes, I can’t wait for a tour of Moretown with you. I recall incredible river scenes, at least that is what I have in my head. I’ll be in touch after the snow is gone. Thanks for all your support Karen!

  • Joanne Moore says:

Thank you for continuing to do this and to share! we look forward to each one and look forward to seeing you when we return to beautiful Vermont in June

  • Muriel Brown says:

Congratulations on two years! What a joy you have brought to us and what a joy it must be to know how many have been blessed by your endless enthusiasm and shared God given gift of capturing the beauty of Vermont!

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Anything but a win-win is a bad deal Muriel, so I’m just glad I can hold up my end of the bargain each week with a new painting. Your incredible support and enthusiasm makes it all worthwhile.

  • Mary Fran says:

Congratulations Peter!!! Can’t believe we’ve had the luxury of seeing your paintings so consistently each week for the last 2 years. What a joy! Thank you for sharing your love of art with all of us and for reminding us how lucky we are to live in this beautiful state of Vermont.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thank you Mary Fran, when I think about how far we’ve come from that first class all those years ago where we met, it feels like we have in fact accomplished some real good through the power of art. Hopefully we can keep at it for another 20 years or so!

  • Marie says:

You are amazing.. prolific and Vermont will thank you for your documentation for decades and more to come. Thank you.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thanks so much Marie. One nice thing about a set schedule like we have here on A Day in Vermont, there’s no time to worry much about legacy… too much pressure anyway. I just have to worry about the next painting! 🙂

  • Diane De France says:

Hi Peter, Congratulations!! I can’t believe it has been two years!
Although I miss the Green Mountains, A Day in Vermont is a lovely reminder of my second home. Thank you for sharing your love of art.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Always nice you hear from you Diane, and yes, it’s crazy how fast time goes by. Glad we can share a few Vermont moments each week even if it’s not in person. All the best from your old friends south of the border!

  • Peggy Stattel says:

Congratulations Peter!!! I remember the first time I saw your work. I knew that I wanted one of your paintings in my house. Now I have one just for me plus two prints. Your talent was evident to me from that first day! This one has special meaning to us. Our children graduated from UVM. Great school. So beautifully painted.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thank you Peggy for all your support through the years. I was only on campus for a couple of hours but you can see and feel the good energy and youthful buzz. If I could do it all over I would pay more attention in Algebra class instead of day-dreaming about art. Well, maybe not.

  • Anita Cronk says:

I missed the last bid on the jersey girls darn it they were so cute

    • Peter Huntoon says:

The Jersey Girls painting went right down to the wire Anita with some very active bidding. Sorry you missed that one. I hope another piece will catch your fancy soon. Thank you so much for all the support!

  • Chris Thrane says:

Peter, I drive by the voew a few times a week and what a wonderful setting it is. You have captured it very well on canvas.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

I was thinking of you when I did this one Chris as I know it’s in your back yard. Glad you approve old friend!

  • Eric says:

Congrats Peter, and many more to come. Thanks for doing what you do !!!!

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thanks very much Eric, and yes, I hope to do exactly what I’m doing for many years to come. And I couldn’t do that without nice folks like you.

  • Brian Dugan says:

Congratulations on two years Peter. You keep me Vermont-connected.

  • Brian Blaine says:

Each week when I receive your latest e-mail, I feel like the blessing is all mine! God has given you great talent, and a good heart. Thank you for sharing with us all, and congratulations on your success in the field of art.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Of course you only see my best work and good side Brian, but I accept your compliment with a sincere thank you. God definitely gave me many gifts, among them stubbornness and tenacity. These are perhaps the most practical of all. As an artist, (and probably most other disciplines) that is what it takes to push through rejection and setbacks on the long winding road, and make any seeds of talent blossom and grow.

  • Sara says:

Congratulations on 2 years Peter! I am the very proud to be the owner of one of your 159 paintings; ‘Summer Mixer’. Well done Peter, and I look forward to each new painting you post. From another UVM alumni, love the UVM campus!

    • Peter Huntoon says:

With the support of folks like you Sara, I hope to keep painting and posting for years to come. Thank you!

  • Michele says:

    Peter,
I love the painting. It brought back so many memories of UVM. Thank you and congratulations on two years of great work and commitment.

My daughter is a UVM Grad. What a beautiful painting and a great gift idea. Love your work Peter!
