A Comfortable Retirement Jan 9, 2014

Anyone who has worked hard all their life deserves a comfortable retirement.

I’ll bet this old flatbed hauled its share of the load back in the day.

Along with a few hard working Vermonters.

Now it’s time to relax and look good, which it does quite well.

Just like my Dad.

And the Winner is…

Congratulations to January’s free print winner, Dianne Johnson of Whitman, MA.

Dianne chose Peak Conditions, and had this to say…

Your paintings capture Vermont’s “IT factor”. That undeniable special
something that changes you even if you are visiting for a weekend. We were
Blessed to have 9 years in VT and now with your paintings, we have IT in
our MA home. Vermont made us better people.
Peak Conditions reminds me of one particular ski trip to Killington with
friends (and no kids). We were there as the slopes opened. We went
straight to the top. It had snowed overnight, but not that heavy snow,
just a dusting. The sun was still low in the sky and it glistened on the
untouched snow. The green of the pines showed under the dusting. IT WAS
MAGICAL!

Love the painting. You captured the beauty of this ol’ truck and the life it must have had. Nice job.

“A Comfortable Retirement” is a great picture for our family. We are antique auto enthusiasts and own a 1929 Ford Pickup restored. One thing is we do not venture out in the winters with ours. It is tucked away til spring!

  • Joanne Blanchard says:

You have to wonder where that truck has been and seen and how many owners it had?

  • Mary Beth Simon says:

Isn’t it the ultimate dream to have a comfortable retirement? Love the painting and the photo!

I love the painting of the old truck. It is funny to see it as I was going thru some old slides and found one of my grandfather with his old truck and all us cousins in the back. I posted it on facebook. Brings back such happy memories.

Absolutely gorgeous! I’m putting it on my list of ever growing favorites! How’s the book coming along?

  • In looking through your auction archive paintings, I thought it would be interesting to have the winning bid posted or in the rare case when a painting is without bids, a notice that the painting – ‘remains available in my Gallery’ – could be cited. You may have a reason for not posting these winning amounts, but I for one would like to know which paintings engendered the most interest. Having won the bidding on eight of your Day in Vermont originals, I am a steady fan and genuinely curious about other bidders’ preferences. Thanks for giving us such wonderful watercolor interpretations of our world.

Thanks Sally for the incredible support! I understand that some might find the final bid information on each painting interesting. I’ll look into the possibility of including that in the archive and give you an update soon. Thanks again!

^Great idea – I was thinking the same thing 🙂

Hi Mary Beth, As of this morning 1/13 the final bid numbers have now been added to individual auction archives.
