Hancock Vermont Sep 8, 2014

Hancock lies in a sweet spot along Route 100 and the picturesque White River.

The Addison County town has the smallest population in the Valley.

And a considerable chunk of the Green Mountain National Forest.

Texas Falls is a popular landmark here.

I’m betting that will make a pretty good painting too!

And the Winner is…

Congratulations to Heather Bent of Randolph Center Vermont, our free print winner for September.

Heather chose Leffert’s Pond, and had this to say about Vermont…

“I love Vermont because of the alluring landscape and kindness of its people. Being raised in Vermont I am still captivated by its beauty on a daily basis. I can not imagine living or being anywhere else for this many years and still being captivated by its transcendence. Thanks so much Peter!”

This painting makes me homesick for Vermont:( moved to Indiana 5 years ago to help with my granddaughter but still a Vermont girl by heart! Your paintings are a beautiful reflection of my memories! Thank you

I’m sorry about the homesick blues Lyn, but it make me very happy to be able to give you a little taste of home each week. Thanks!

I know that place where your painting was done. What a beautiful and peaceful spot.

  • Marty Irons says:

Frost: “Two roads diverged in a yellow wood, and sorry I could not travel both…I took the one less traveled by, and that has made all the difference.” Peter, your paintings remind Ann & I why we should continue to travel off the beaten path. Your paintings capture the joy of living in Vermont.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thanks Marty. And Joseph Joubert said “You will not find poetry anywhere unless you bring some of it with you.” Which is why you and Ann find so much if it.

  • Katherine Di Ricco says:

I want to live in Vermont and share in the love of the land!

Peter, thank you for seeing the beauty in our little town of Hancock! When Irene came to town in 2011 the approach to this bridge was totally washed away and we were unable to drive south toward the church for several days. In response to the extensive storm damage, a group of residents formed a committee to plan events and beautify the town. One small project was planting the flowers which brighten the foreground of your painting. You captured the light in this simple scene perfectly. We see this corner every day–we live a stone’s throw away–and now we’ll forever have your interpretation in our mind’s eye. Again, thank you, from the heart of Hancock.
PS Will it be possible to buy a print of your painting?

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Wow, that’s a great Vermont story Dorothy, thank you for sharing. No wonder I was attracted to it. Good positive vibes and energy! Yes, prints are available…just click on the “Order Print” button above, to the right on the painting, and you can order there. Or if you prefer the old fashioned way…235-2328. Thanks again!

I stopped by Peter’s studio and I purchased this print! It’s hanging in my dining room. I also had previously bought some little Folk Art prints inside this church in 2008. They were done by a 16 yr old boy named Elijah Zimmerman. I traveled to Vermont in 2008 and 2017 from Utah. I left my heart there!
