High Country Snows Feb 29, 2016

The snow has been a little hard to come by this winter.

I’ve had to roam far, wide, and high to find it.

I borrowed the title for this painting from a favorite singer-songwriter.

“When the lakes all lie frozen and the wild wind blows

I’ll return to my darlin and the high country snows”

Time Marches On

As most of you know, each month I draw one random Day in Vermont subscriber to win a free print…winner’s choice!

I use Random.org to generate a random number from 1 to 5782, the current number of subscribers. I then match the winning number to the winning subscriber. Fair and Square.

Hard to believe, but I’ll be drawing a winner for March this week. Good luck!

If and when we hit 7000 subscribers, I’ll start drawing two winners per month. Your support, both for my artwork and A Day in Vermont, has been amazing. This is one small way I can say thank you.

If you have some friends who might enjoy A Day in Vermont, please consider inviting them to join us!

And one more thing…

Here’s a brand new (larger) painting just off the easel yesterday. While I hope to paint a few more snow scenes before it’s all over, it’s hard to argue with Mother Nature.

    Peter-
You’ve mastered capturing the stillness of the feeling of standing in the field with the snow, it’s beauty and the yearning to discover what’s beyond with a walk through that field. That scene reminds me so much of one’s I knew as a young girl; set to explore on foot and feel the crunch of the snow beneath my feet and the soft hue of sun on the field and my face. So special, Peter.

Beautiful farm. (Early Spring Farm) I can put myself in the picture. And who knows – you may get a chance for more snow scenes this year. It’s only March.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

We usually get clobbered with one big storm in March, along with what the old timers call “sugar snow”, wet stuff that melts quickly. we will see. Thankyou Karen!

  • David Churchill says:

    Nice. Nothing more to say.

  • Brian Blaine says:

Love the color harmony and peace of High Country Snows. Also enjoy very much the composition of Early Spring Farm. The variety of shapes and colors in the sky serve in an abstract way to emphasize (reflect) the somewhat “messy” nature of Vermont spring time farms and fields. You know, muddy spots, old hay, new growth, fences in need of upkeep here and there. It’s all part of the charm of Vermont country, …and of your painting!

You know I started writing about music and how closely it relates to painting, (ie harmony, variety, repetition) but realized it was going to be longer than I could finish for this week. Another future post. When you do visit we better plan on a couple of hours. Thanks very much Brian!

I’m sure that Dan Fogelberg would relate to your art, if he was still alive. Both of you capture common themes and bring them to our attention. One of my favorite songs is “Leader of the Band” by Dan Fogelberg. Both you and Dan are two of my favorite artists.

  • Charlene Gibson says:

Shifting seasons…both creations have a story along with the scenes as you have shared w/ us. Thank you …so glad you have a tremendous following. Cindy

    • Peter Huntoon says:

The transitions between each season are beautiful, sometimes slow, often quick. Yes, I am indeed blessed to have so many friends who share a love for Vermont and art. Thank you Cynthia!

  • Julia Washburn says:

Actually miss my Vermont when in Florida. Your paintings reach my yankee soul.

  • Maxine says:

The first of the month can’t come soon enough for me anymore! Vermont is still in this old girl and you just warm my heart with your stunning artwork. I thank you so much for sharing your talent!
