Spring Symphony May 18, 2015

A chromatic scale of spring color crescendos down Main St. Poultney.

Nature’s choir sings in perfect harmony, with clear bright voices.

Music and art share many similar traits.

Both have the amazing ability to lift us up and fill us with joy.

“As music is the poetry of sound, so is painting the poetry of sight.” James McNeil Whistler

That is a great quote, a lovely painting. I truly admire your ability to portray Vermont in memorable ways.

I paint what I love Michele, and I’m very glad a few others like you love some of the same things. Thanks!

As I compared the photo to the painting, I found myself thinking how good it is to be an artist. If the photo informs me correctly, the day was perhaps a bit hazy, maybe even overcast. But then the skillful artist takes such a day and , “Voila!”, the sun shines brilliantly, the temperature is perfect, and bird song fills the air!

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thanks Brian, I took the photo very early in the morning and it was still hazy but with the promise of warmth glowing behind the mist. My general optimism, enthusiasm, and sunny disposition probably contributed to the overall effect here, but I guess that’s usually the case. 🙂

Your quote by Whistler reminded me of one which I’ve had framed on my wall for years: “Music and love are the wings of the soul” by Berlioz.

even though I do not live in Vermont I have been there to vacation many times. Anyone who lives in the country or who has lived in the past in the country can really appreciate all your paintings. I just love them all. Each one reminds me of something in life I really enjoyed. I thank you again for your talents!!! Winnie Jackson

Peter, my sister and I grew up across the street over the old A&P… this brought a tear to my eye. Thank you.

  • Sue Claire Bachelder says:

The painting is lovely, Peter. I grew up in Poultney, my parents graduated from Green Mountain College (back when it was Green Mountain Junior College) and I did too a number of years later. My dad was Bursar there for over 40 years. You have caught the essence of Main Street, the quote is perfect. You have to love the small towns of Vermont, they are very special! And your love of all Vermont shows in every one of your paintings.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

You certainly have a strong Poultney connection Sue Claire. I’m glad to hear my painting does some justice to so many good memories. Thank you!
