Vermont Riverscape

“No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.” Heraclitus

For me at least, that’s what painting is like.

Each one is an individual encounter.

Leaving my expectations on shore, something new and true to that moment has a chance to emerge.

My favorite painting is the one I couldn’t do again.

A painting that could only happen once.

And I don’t even know how I did it.

Size: 12X16 (auctioned unframed)
Medium: Oil on panel

It’s the same with a story. You can never tell it the same way because you and your audience are never the same. But one thing we can be excited about is…you had that ONE time. From the looks of things, you nailed it this ONE time. I can hear the water tumbling over the rocks. Thank you for the Monday morning kick start.

Judging from your comments, I feel that you & I were soulmates in another lifetime. A most delightful pondering. Perhaps we shall meet again in another lifetime.

Thank you once again for MONDAYS. Painting is wonderful…can almost hear the falls and feel the spray. Really like your thoughts and feelings. Cindy

  4. Sandra Marston

I have enjoyed seeing your wonderful paintings for quite a long while now but this is the most strikingly beautiful one so far……

  5. George Wisell

Beautiful, calming portrait of nature. It seems familiar to me. Where did you paint this? If I may ask.

    • Peter Huntoon

Thank you George, This painting is loosely based on a photo I took just north Burke VT, in the Northeast Kingdom, along the Passumpsic River.

Is it just me or are you getting better??! Your paintings lately have been so beautifully done they almost take my breath away. Thank you, Peter for sharing your wonderful talent.

Dear Peter…THIS….was stunning. You mentioned that you didn’t know “how” you even DID the painting, in that you didn’t know HOW the depth of the painting showed itself on canvas. I would wager to guess you are QUITE TAPPED IN, my friend. This is truly lovely work. Thank you for your service through the beauty of form and color and texture and depth.

You truly find the most enticing locations, Peter. Your reverence for each location/view is reflected in the impassioned paintings you create. Your paintings and correlating commentaries are exquisite and very successful at “lowering the temperature” (to borrow an expression I’ve heard used in recent days). One more reason to be grateful for the gift of A Day In Vermont.

I love the feel this painting evokes. It reminds me a bit of the Hudson Valley school painters’ work.

Peter…today is my birthday…my life’s odometer is rolling over at dou le sevens. I have recently received two wonderful presents. A long pined-for end to our recent political Dark Ages with the sword of Excalibur being pulled from the stone…to hopefully be wielded fairly for all. And, second, the more mundane, but no less trivial (at least in my humble fan psyche), yesterday’s UGLY Steelers’victory over Dallas in their inexorable March to the Superbowl. And, finally, present number three…your thought provoking words of Heraclitud which you chose to accompany & further reveal your naked honesty in the process es at play in your Zen moments of your creations. I hope you live to a healthy life of 100 ! The world needs your healing influence for at least that long. Keep eating your vegetables!

This is one of my absolute favorites of your paintings. It is not only magnificent, but the motion and beauty make me feel like I am there and experiencing the best of nature. I would love to know where to find this falls. I have only been to Vermont once in my lifetime, but we have been hoping to return as soon as the stars align. It would be great to see this in person someday.

Thanks Judith, This painting is loosely based on a photo I took just north Burke VT, in the Northeast Kingdom, along the Passumpsic River.
