Autumn Shores

“Silence is one of the great arts of conversation.” Marcus Tullius Cicero

Painting is just one way to have a conversation with Nature. She’s always ready to engage, if I’m willing to listen.

Here along the Autumn Shores of Little Averill in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom, She had a lot of good things to say.

Please enjoy the new video below. We shot the footage in silence to honor the remote peace. (and I forgot the lapel microphone.)

Size: 12X16 (auctioned unframed)

Bet it is snowed in there today! My husband has very fond memories of going there as a kid and he has taken me there a few times. Beautiful painting!!!!

This was neat to watch and see one of your masterpieces develop. So interesting to watch, How long in all did this take you to completion? Thanks for sharing.

Hi Nancy Rae, I painted about two hours on location, and perhaps another four in the studio. The initial on location work is fast and furious, a direct response to the subject at hand. The studio “clean up” is a slower pace and more considered. The aim is to retain the fresh honesty captured in the field, while bringing the painting to a satisfactory level of finish and completion.

Love the solitude, not to mention the absolutely beautiful painting. We are so fortunate to live here in Vermont….even more so during these difficult times. Thank you, Peter for reminding us of the gifts we have that surround us.

So appreciate your Monday morning rhapsody: the flow of the water, the paint and musical notes were superb. You get a stand ovation from me. Bravo!

This was a wonderful video! Everything about it was interesting to me from your plein air set up, the tools you use, how you apply the paint, the scenery(!!!). Gorgeous painting, and thank you for sharing your process! I think it was amazing without words. From a Native Vermonter living in the Midwest, sigh.

There’s no place like up north to go and see the beautiful Fall colors and you are so lucky to be there. What a thrill to be able to paint outside and capture all that beautiful scene.

Thank you for this glimpse into your ‘magic’. How you get all that intricate detail by wielding that wide flat brush is beyond me.

Loved the video and I share it with many friends. . We enjoyed the lake more this year than ever at our cabin that sits just above the lakeshore where you set up for the painting. Beautiful and you captured the feeling I get every time I’m there. Thank you.
