Jackson Gore Summer

Men-tor n : a wise and trusted counselor or teacher.

Once upon a time I was a studio-only painter. Sure, I’d go outside to gather reference material but all my painting was done in the cozy confines of a studio.

Then one day my friend Bob Sydorowich invited me to paint outdoors, “en plein air”. It took all the courage I could muster to say yes. It’s been yes ever since.

Thank you Bob!

Please Note: This auction is scheduled to run for two weeks, closing on Monday, July 2.

I’ll be off on a distant plein air adventure next week. 🙂

Have a wonderful trip. It will be exciting to see what you bring back!

Love the repetition of “peaks”…peaks of mountains, peaks of roof lines, even the lines of ski trails forming visual peaks of sorts as they converge at points along the ridge. Nicely done!

You’ve got it, Brian. In the painting the ski trail’s summits are the peaks. They seem to be deep scratches dominating those mountains.

God gives us mentors in all shapes and sizes to tap us on the shoulder. You listened and there you are, on the mountain top being blessed. Win-win!

I remember Bobby from many years ago when I was a young sprout. We had friends that lived up the hill from him. He’s a very cool guy. Really interesting.

What a great panorama! Really “en plein air”. I hope this will cure you a little bit more. Don’t be stressed by our impatience and curiosity. Enjoy the summer outside. In my opinion you see the ski trails like wounds cutted by a knife in the forest. In the European mountains “Alpen” or in “Sauerland” it’s similar. An interesting pattern of human operations in landscapes.

Interesting to see Jackson Gore this way, through the artist’s eyes. I was a ski instructor there this winter, so I know those trails and mountains intimately. Very different in this view!

Sorry I wasn’t around to join you. Wonderful painting Peter!

Me too Lynn, thanks! Maybe I’ll see you Friday in Woodstock.
