Mount Snow Feb 8, 2016

The sparkling white trails usher happy skiers and riders down the mountain beneath a clear blue February sky.

It was beautiful on Tuesday so I went looking for snow.

I headed south down Route 30 through Jamaica, and then onto Rt 100 through Wardsboro. A place called Mount Snow seemed like a logical destination.

And the winner is…

Each month I give away a free print to one random Day in Vermont subscriber. It’s one small way I can say thanks for all your support. Congratulations to our February winner, Debby Suates of Spark, Nevada. Debby chose “Northfield Bridge“, and had this to say…

I am so very excited because I don’t win much or often and I LOVE your style of Art. Vermont is my home state and where I was born. My grandparents cultivated the land and shaped my heart and soul. My parents moved away but yet the serenity of the land draws me back here so often. I LOVE VT for the the stillness and beauty it possesses, when one wanders through the roads not travelled so frequently. The fields, flowers, barns, fences…….such delight! Thanks so much Peter! I don’t know you personally nor have I met you. Perhaps I will one day.

And just one more thing…

Every once in awhile, in between A Day in Vermont paintings and Private Commissions, I manage to paint something extra. Here is a new oil painting finished last week. Enjoy!

VERY VT It speaks to me! Oil?! Must find time to see it “live”. Hmm……

Mount Snow above is water media Sebastian, but if you are talking about the Hillcrest Farm piece, yes, that’s a big oil. I have it here in my studio for now. Just let me know if you would like a private showing. Thank you!

    Love the Hillcrest Farm painting!

  • Brian Blaine says:

Interesting treatment of the trails and many geometric shapes in the Mount Snow rendition. Very nice sense of rhythm and movement throughout. And as I’ve send before, I especially like your oil paintings, and Hillcrest Farm is no exception! Beautiful colors and a wonderful sense of peace.

Thanks Brian, I really enjoyed a more abstract approach with the mountain. As is usually the case, I let the first few strokes dictate the direction and that’s where they led me. Even after a few years and probably 100 paintings in oil, I still feel like a babe in the woods with them, and I love it. Bringing “beginners mind” to any artistic endeavour is always a good thing…it leaves immense possibilities of learning and discovery open.

Bright primary and muted warmth I feel in the 2 shown here…. Best of both Cindy

Thank you Cynthia, I do try to develop and employ a broad range of vocabulary in my work. Having the right “words” to say what you want to say, when you want to say it, is of course important for any artist/writer/poet/musician who wants to express themselves and communicate effectively.
