Apple Blossoms May 16, 2013

The apple trees in these parts have been in full bloom the past couple of weeks.

When I decided to paint one I didn’t have to go far. This scene is literally five steps out my studio door.

The cool greens and soft violets of Spring are a magical combination, compliments of mother nature. The blossoms were created with several layers of spontaneous splatter.

Peter – You are an inspiration! Thank you for sharing these amazing paintings! I need to get my brushes out!!!:)

If I can help inspire you to pick up your brushes it will make me very happy. For most artists, including me, starting is the hardest part. Even when you paint everyday. Even when you are a “professional artist.” Commit to do whatever it takes to simply start. The rest will take care of itself. Have fun!

Just beautiful Peter, reminds me of my drive into Rutland from Lake Bomoseen. I love that dairy farm on the right. Thanks from “bringing me home” in my mind today here in Ohio…

Thank you very much Kelly. Home is where the heart is. As Vermonters and Vermont lovers I’m so glad we can connect through the magic of art. (and the internet!)

A wonderful painting of one of the many beautiful apple trees all around us at this time of the year. I appreciate your comment on how you did the blossoms–controlled spatters are a helpful “tool”, Thanks.

For some reason I really noticed the apple trees blossom this year. I guess it’s like that quote…”What we see depends mainly on what we look for.” Yes, I love a painting that has a little bit of both…deliberate control and fortunate happenstance. Thanks Edie

    Breathtaking!!!

  • This is inspiring. I love it.

  • Peter you just keep inspiring us to paint and use color and a variety of techniques. For your followers who would like to spend some time with you in workshop format I hope they will check out your calendar of events and perhaps join the Killington Arts Guild June 29-30 for two days of your inspiring, participatory instruction.

Wow, Peter. You continue to amaze and inspire. I just love your recent paintings. So colorful and bold! What is your new collage technique? Is it rice paper

I am tempted to quit my day job so I can paint like you are! 🙂 Keep it up!

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thank you Sue, yes I use a variety of artist grade rice paper for the collage pieces. I use matte medium the adhesive. The element of physical texture can be a very interesting addition when integrated and unified.
