Autumn Encore Oct 31, 2016

I think October deserves a final encore before she exits the stage into November.

And it called for a colorful crescendo.

Call me decadent.

Artistic inspiration is easy to find on a quiet country road.

Especially in Vermont.

Speaking of November…

Here in my studio November is known as the “Hunker Down With Commissions” month.

I’m certainly blessed to again have a full plate of Private Commission work due by year’s end.

To help me complete everything on schedule, I’ll be scaling back just a bit by posting a Day in Vermont painting every other week for this month.

Please note that the next couple of auctions will run for a two weeks, including this one.

I will still be drawing our two free print winners for November, as usual.

Thank you for your continued support!

With warmest regards,

Peter

Just a personal note to you; I first noticed your personal work while my mother, Phyllis was doing frame work for some of your paintings.

  • Brian says:

Love the way you have captured the subtle variations in color in the shadows. What is impossible in the way a camera catches a scene and tries to neutralize all to a uniform “gray” has become vibrant through paint, brush, and the vision and skill of the artist. Well done!

Thank you Brian, yes, I think the cool shadows against the warm foliage was the inspiration for this one

Peter-Wow, wow, wow! As I opened your email to view your new painting from my home in Seattle, over 100 Canadian geese flew through the trees trumpeting in song. Think they knew how glorious the unveiling of your painting would be. Love the vertical orientation and of course your signature PH brush strokes that accentuate the texture throughout. Beautiful blend of colors and capturing the essence of the moment in fall foliage. Bravo Peter!

Thanks Lauren! If I could stop time I would do it in October. At least I took a bunch of photos to work from if needed. It was a stellar season here in Vermont.

One of your best! Your paintings are so special!

  • Debbie Megginson says:

Love this piece especially since Illinois is rather drab this year due to warm weather! A special treat was discovering your Pinterest page when I pinned this Autumn Encore. All of my favorites are there!

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thanks Debbie, yes I post these to Pinterest. I don’t know too much about that but my wife does. Lot’s of nice images over there!

Sitting at Sloppy Joes bar in Key West, this painting makes me yearn for one more week of fall in Vermont!

  • Susan says:

    Another fall winner!! Love it.

Now a week into November as I write this, I’m on my second commission and it’s going very well. I might sneak out for a day of painting plein air next week if it’s warm enough. Thanks Cynthia!

What rich color! It truly says “it’s autumn and I feel beautiful”. Great job for us to enjoy!

  • Margaret Hildick-Pytte says:

In typical Huntoon style with minimal strokes & color and maximum effect you have captured the glory of Autumn in a way that stimulates such fond memories of being in Vermont at the showiest time of the year! Keep up the good work Peter.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

I’ll sure try Margaret, thanks for your continued support way over there in Australia. I came by East Poutlney the other day and the light was incredible on the back side of the green (the same view of the painting you have) I was thinking of you.

Hi Peter, a beautiful suny day, a small road, the colors of autumn, the blue shadows… all fits together. In the near of my hometown Steinau there are mountains called Spessart and Vogelsberg. In history both forests were the home of poor people with a hard life. The climate was rougher than today and they had to fight again hart winters. This caused many robberies especially in the Spessart. It’s legendary. The forest was a frightening pathless forest of old oaks and beeches with very poor villages. But today we admire the beeches and the remaining oaks. It’s a pleasure to walk there in autumn. And at least: I agree with Brian’s comments.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

You have a very descriptive writing ability Doris. I can imagine being there painting in the dangerous forest, keeping an eye out for someone trying to steal my expensive paint brushes. Thanks!
