Big Air Feb 22, 2016
You’d think after 30 years of using a camera that I would have evolved beyond “point-and-shoot.”
In fact, I’ve come to accept that some things in life will always elude me.
Things like shutter speed, aperture, and math, for example.
So when I got a good shot of this red-tailed hawk soaring against the sky last week, it was pure luck.

I can feel the air as it sifts thru this hawk’s wings carrying him above the beautiful hills of Vermont and beyond! I also feel the intensity of his concentration in looking , always searching for a meal !! (I am like that at times myself!) it is beautiful Peter! Thank you again for bringing a smile to my face on a Monday!
He/she was very relaxed, but also very focused. Kind of like the way I try to paint. Thanks Mary!
This is so simple, so sweet. You have caught the spirit of the hawk. I NEVER tire of seeing red tails, whether in flight, or sitting on a light pole along I-91, or on a tree branch with half a snake in their beaks.
Yes, I restrained myself a bit and kept things simple. Amazing how often that’s the best approach. Thanks Jane!
So beautiful! You can feel the movement and hear the wind. So different than many of your paintings. Definitely one of my favorites!
Thanks Kim, definitely not my usual subject or composition. Gotta take a chance and strech from time to time.
Great photo. Bird is so beautiful. Very relaxing just looking at it. Thank you for sharing.
My pleasure Rose, thank you!
Love it!
Thanks Steve!
THIS…IS…STUNNING, Peter! AMAZING movement and “message” which is Hawk totem’s signature!
This one will have to find its way to my meditation room!!!
Thank you, Victoria, I find empathy to be an important element in (my) painting…and in this case, I could almost feel myself flying as I painted. Good stuff!
This is fun!
Was for me too Christine, thanks!
Peter, this is spectacular I can here the scream of the red tail.
Spectacular bird for sure Joe, thanks very much!
The subtle sweep of movement in the rich blue sky enhances the shape and movement of the hawk’s wings. Flecks of dark color amongst the blues mimic the deepest colors in the wings and tail as well. A few touches of yellow and reddish brown lend focus and sparkle and life. Nicely done1
You always have an artist’s eye Brian. Can’t wait to meet and talk in person.
This is absolutely gorgeous
Thanks Charlene!
Aaaah, such majesty. I never tire of seeing the hawks at the tippy-top of the tall spruce trees around my yard in the Pacific Northwest. A rare event occurred recently where he/she decided to hang out on a lower branch where we could observe more closely. A gift and privilege for sure!
When we are given those precious moments to glimpse the purity of nature, it sure puts things into perspective. Thank you Rebecca!
Awesome! Majestic! What more needs to be said?
Not a word David, thanks!
My wife saw a hawk on a telephone line the other day. We were coming from West Haven. We also saw turkeys looking for food. Amazing painting, and I like the texture of the background.
It would be nuts if we actually saw the same hawk, Scott. This shot was in fact West Haven, 1/4 mile up the road from Ghost Hollow.
Spectacular!!!
Thanks Theresa!
About a week ago our dog (in the house) started barking loudly(usually squirrels, etc) but she got my attention and there was the HAWK in a tree not too far from the bird feeder…of course all the birds and squirrels were GONE to safety….maybe thanks to our dog (Abby) Great you were able to get a wonderful photo for your latest presentation. Cindy
Thanks Cynthia, our wonderful dogs sure keep us informed, don’t they?
Peter,
It’s 7:31 AM on Monday, the bid for Big Air is at $289 and there is no ‘Bid Now’ hyperlink in evidence on which to click to enter a bid . . . If you read this, I would like to bid $300. Thanks, Sally

Peter,
I was on internet explorer and when I tried through Google Chrome, I found the bid button. Thanks, Sally
“Big Air” brought tears to my eyes! I have believed for years that my mother’s spirit is the red tailed hawk. As we watched her die of cancer, when I was at my lowest moments of grief, she “the red tailed hawk” would appear, often swooping past my living room picture window. This picture has moved me. Thank you for sharing your talent and passion.
Thank you Bobbie for sharing your story.
