Rochester Cafe Apr 17, 2014
Route 100 is a well known scenic byway, for good reason.
And I can always find a good reason to head north.
The warm lights of the Rochester Cafe beckoned last week on a cool damp day.
And the piping hot double cappuccino I ordered inside turned out to be a good enough reason indeed.

Decisions Decisions
I have been asked: “Why did you leave the telephone pole out?”
I have also been told: “You should have left the telephone pole out.”
If you are an artist you know that we have to make many decisions about what to leave in and what to leave out.
Generally, I like to have a good reason either way.
Don’t tell the power company but I have repositioned or removed many utility poles.
I decided to include this pole for three reasons.
Personally, I think it helps make a stronger, more dynamic composition with interesting negative shapes.
I also saw the Cafe as a central community hub of connection and confluence, a public epicenter for the entire Rochester area. The main pole with its radiating lines connecting everyone to each other seemed to echo this idea quite well.
The third reason?
I just like it.
Your telephone-pole reasoning made me chuckle – thanks, I needed that!
We all can use a little more chuckle, thanks Wheatley
The reflections are magnificent!
Thank you Mary Beth, I did those reflections in the first minutes, and was wise enough to leave them alone.

I totally agree with your reasoning – all of them!
Thanks for having my back Betsy!
Love this one and the pole! It does give equanimity to the setting. And, I have actually been to Rochester and seen this cafe, although it was not open that day. But, love knowing I have seen the real deal htat is the subject. Beautiful, as always.
Thanks very much Sukie!
I loved the reason for the pole and the end result, dynamic!
Thank you Olivia, much appreciated!

Thanks for the tip Art, I will have to see if I can get lucky!
Just found your site and the great rendering of the Rochester Cafe. You caught it exactly and I so would have missed the telephone pole. I look forward to many other towns.
Thank you Brenda, glad we found each other!
