Branbury Beach Jul 8, 2013

Growing up in Rutland, Branbury Beach on Lake Dunmore was an annual summertime treat.

What a joy to be able to relive that experience Saturday.

I didn’t get a sunburn this time, but I did get a half & half creamie with sprinkles.

And a painting.

Nothing is more memorable than a smell. One scent can be unexpected, momentary and fleeting, yet conjure up a childhood summer beside a lake in the mountains.

This one sure brought back some memories. I remember going to Branbury Beach as a kid in the late 1960s. It looks just as nice now as it did then. Thanks for the ride and the half & half with sprinkles sure sounds good.

Hi Brian, it had been many years since my last visit but I agree…still the same great beach, and concession stand.

I think you should have painted your easel and supplies in the picture…the photo looks so relaxed with the easel in the corner…
BUT, I do love your work each piece make me want another…
Thank you for all the walks down memory lane.

It was a nice shady spot to enjoy the view and put some paint on Nancy. I met some new friends in the process too which is always a bonus.

I can still picture the bald eagle I saw 3 years ago, flying right there in the middle of your picture. Just the day earlier, I saw a bald eagle flying over another small lake just south of Rutland while watching over kids during a field day. At Branbury, I was telling my previous day’s eagle story to two college-aged “kids” who were in charge of things at the lake, while my eyes were following what looked like another bald eagle in the background. When the bird turned in flight so that I could see its prominent white head, I couldn’t quite believe me eyes! Thanks for bringing back that little memory that bubbled to the surface, after looking at your nice piece of artwork, Peter. You’re the best! If I had the money, I’d most certainly bid on your picture. Some day, Peter, I’m going to hang a Huntoon on our walls here — some day . . .

  • Peter Huntoon says:

Great story Ron, thanks for sharing! I’ll be proud to hang on your walls when you are ready. Hope to see you soon.

Hi Peter – boy did this bring back some happy memories! And nobody says “creamie” or asks for “jimmies” in California! Still loving the last painting I bought – it’s the first thing I see when I awake in the morning. Thanks for taking me back to happier times – Gail

Hello Gail, I’m glad to hear you love your new painting! Thanks for all your support. I will do my best to keep sending good Vermont memories your way.

Finally! I have been hoping you would do one of Branbury Beach. Through Childhood, Teenager and Adult years, it is still beautiful to me, Thank you, thank you. Sunday Bandstand is another happy memory I already have hanging in my place. Soon this one will be as well. Maybe Summer Mixer too, and Family Potrait and April Flowers and October Road and, and 🙂 So many I want!

Thanks very much Susan, I’m glad I could finally come through for you on the BB scene. It holds lots on memories for many of us.
