Forest Flock Mar 4, 2019
The well fed flock at Merck Forest in Rupert, Vermont enjoys a friendly visit.
If I happen to come back around as a sheep, I’d be very happy here.
The reference photo for this painting arrived in a recent newsletter from Merck Forest, and I couldn’t resist.
Thank you Anna and Rob Terry for sharing your wonderful farm and image!

And the Winners Are…
Each month I draw two random Day in Vermont subscribers to win a free print of their choice.
It’s one small way I get to say thanks for continued support.
Our first winner for February is Janice Prindle of South Woodstock, Vermont. Janice chose Vermont Sunset and had this to say…
“I am bowled over! This is such a treat! And an honor. Yes, I’m a regular subscriber and admire your work , not only as an artist but as someone who is always reaching out through your art to the community, via your emails, videos and public events. I am a beginner with watercolors and I’m constantly learning from what you share. I chose Vermont Sunset for its stunning sky over the near and far mountains—an invitation to timeless peace, while those hay bales along the meadow side of the road remind us that we work hard and sacrifice much to live here, where we can be uplifted by natural beauty as we go about our business every day. This scene illustrates an old poem by Dr. Johnstone that’s on my kitchen wall, “No Vermonters in Heaven” — because they insist on hiking right back to Vermont! Thank you, Peter, for your work, which always reminds me how lucky I am to live in “heaven on earth.”
Our second winner is Suzanne Sperry of Rutland, Vermont. Suzanne chose “From Here to Eternity”, and had this to say…
“I was so pleased to find out my name was selected for one of your prints. I enjoy receiving the weekly email of A day in Vermont to see your work as well as your words of inspiration. I have called Vermont my home for 35 years and absolutely love the Green Mountains that surround me. I grew up near Lake George NY with the Adirondack park in my back yard. I feel blessed to have experienced living in both states that have such natural beauty. The print I have chosen From here to Eternity is a reminder of where I am and where I grew up. Thank you again Peter.”
Absolutely LOVE the Forest Flock piece.
Thanks Lois!
always a surprise on Monday… thanks
Thanks Lee!
This is absolutely one of my favorites….partly because it reminds me of the sheep I see when vacationing in South Hero and the surrounding area. Thank you for using your talents in capturing these wonderful creatures in such a natural and peaceful setting. It’s just great!
Thanks Beth!
Peter, you captured a sweet image. I have a friend Bonnie who has a very eclectic group of animals that she rescues and collects. Her husband Art says, “When I die I want to come back as a Bonnie rescue.” You’ve saved a precious moment in time. Bravo!
Thanks Beth!
In our religious observances, we often think about shepherds, and the God Shepherd.
Yet if we get out of our opinions and ourselves, and come to think of Gods creation of all, we can start to better understand that the. Sheep, with their own feeling, motivations and experience of pain, deserve the same love and attention that we receive.
Thank you for that reminder, Peter.
Thanks Edwin!
Love this painting…for me it’s peaceful despite the cold conditions of winter! You captured it Peter!
Thanks Susan!
Thank you so much for my Monday smiles! Congratulations to the winners! 🙂
Thanks Melodie!
I live in Florida, but I love snow, sheep and old barns, and this picture has all three. Love it!
Thanks Judy!
The sheep look so warm, despite the snow. Your comment about coming back as a sheep makes me smile…
Thanks Deanie!
It is always such a treat to open your emails but the Forest Flock truly made my day. Thank you Peter for the gifts you give to us all with your art.
Thanks Pam!
Love sheep. Just love them. These look as if in a dream. Beautiful.
Thanks Kate!
Love the texture of this one. Makes me think of home. Thank You
Thanks Dhyan!
Whether captured in the delicate feather-flakes of falling snow, the smoothness of fresh accumulation upon a roof, the dune-like waves and piles of winter’s icy drifts, or even the soft and wooly backs of sheep, the many colors and textures of white do bring delight!
Beautiful Brian, thanks!
