The Gift
Painting the snow fort this week brought me back to a happy childhood growing up in Rutland, Vermont.
As an occasional treat for my sisters and me, Dad would draw something on our brown paper lunch bags.
They were always a big hit at school.
As each year passes that “simple” gift becomes ever more meaningful.
Bernard Huntoon gave me the precious gift of art.
He also taught me to share it.
Love the story, thanks for sharing
Very nice memory! Merry Christmas And A Happy New Year to you and your family, Peter!
absolutely love this painting and the story. I grew up in Mendon and we always built snow forts and the defending of it was so much fun. Love that you saved the bags from your dad with the artwork. Merry Christmas!
What very special lunches you had! Thank you for sharing your art and thoughts!
Merry Christmas!!!
Delightful musings…
Merry Christmas & Happy New Year 2020
Obviously the paintbrush didn’t fall far from dad’s palette. How blessed you were to have the lunchbag love. And it was all about defending the fort, I’m sure there was divine intervention from the church, too. Thank you for the Monday 🙂
This painting today was special as we have very dear friends that live in Tinmouth!
Thanks for bringing me down memory lane. What a great gift you have from your Dad-those are the best memories!
Peter, your attachments are very moving for me, as my dad gave me & my sister art, too, in other but as creative ways as your dad did. What great fathers! Thanks for sharing this echo.
And the snow fort–a wonderful way to bring color into a day that’s limited to b&w. Superb painting!
A snowball fight in front of an old, white, wooden church with steeple. How winter, how Vermont, how Christmas! Happy Holidays to you Peter ….. and to us all
Wonderful painting of the heart of our town. (from a Tinmouth resident)

Love the steeple. I fear these are becoming
a thing of the past in architecture.
Beautiful, memorable, painting. So nice of you to share your joy and father’s gift to you. Thank you.
