Landgrove Vermont Jan 25, 2016
“What we see depends mainly on what we look for.”
It seems to me that John Lubbock got that right.
Especially in the more subjective matters of art, politics, love and life.
I went looking for a new painting in Landgrove.
And it didn’t take me very long to find it.

Beautiful!!!! As always
Thank you Denise!
I love the warmth of the yellows in this winter scene. What a wonderful contrast.
I was loving the yellow-warm too, Thomas. Thanks!
Hi Peter! A fine painting, basking in warmth of color in the cold of winter! Arresting.
Thanks Steve, I guess I rarely use “pure” yellows, and this scene gave me a great opportunity to set up significant contrasts.
Love the yellows…. I used to love to drive thru Land grove in the summer. Really missed out by not going in wintertime. Miss Vermont!
Landgrove, like so many Vermont towns, is a hidden jewel. Thank you Lyn!
Nice picture. So typical Vermont!
Thanks David!
Great composition and use of strong complementary colors. I especially like the way you altered color and shape when putting in the roadway (driveway?) in the back upper left of the painting compared to the photo. I think it added a lot to the composition and was a nice extra artistic touch.
Altered is a good word, “exaggerated” works too… as I do in most paintings, I took what was there and emphasised some elements, subordinated others. As artists we are “Human Photoshops” (Someone called me that once) I felt that Landgrove Road was important to the composition, leading the eye, and echoed the warm yellow there. The road is also an important part of the paintings theme/idea/content/subject… as it’s the main road through town. It connects the community to each other, and the outside world.
Peter-you just helped me find my husband’s 60th birthday present. He was born in Maine, but then moved to Vermont as a young boy. This will be perfect with the colors for our home. Thank you for your amazing artistic interpretation and expression on the palette.
Happy Birthday! That’s my next “big one” too. It’s indeed a pleasure to share my artistic interpretations with nice people like you who enjoy them. Thank you Lauren!
Love Nature’s art . Feels WARM…. blues and golds…someone’s high school colors : ) Cindy
Thanks Cindy, I had not given that a thought, but blue and gold were my high school colors. (Poultney Vermont)
Love it!! I love your visual interpretations of the Vermont landscape. Knowing what to keep, what to change, what to leave out … Always inspiring!!
Thanks very much Susan, as described above, I do tend to tinker just a bit with any given scene, and I try to do so in a respectful, thoughtful, sincere manner. Maybe this is my approach when painting a subject; Nature is perfect exactly as She is, but THIS is what really turns me on.
You’ve invited me into yet another Vermont village. The yellow calls out to me too!
Thank you Rebecca, were gonna get to all 251 Vermont towns before we’re done, at least that’s the plan!
I love the colors.
Thank you Korina!
It’s SO ‘pretty’! I’m going to add this one to my “to be purchased” print (last DIV) list. I love winter landscapes so much. This has such a wonderfully intense contrast.
Thanks so much Betsy!
So lovely! These colors are the majestic. I have to say it in german: Schöner, ausgewogener Komplementär- und Kalt-Warm-Kontrast. Like always so much better than the photos. Greetings from grey Germany Doris
Vielen Dank Doris, die alle das Beste aus Ihrem Freund in Vermont!
Love your website and Vermont – Thanks for making me smile.
Smiles are contagious, now I have one. Thanks Robin!
