“And into the forest I go, to lose my mind and find my soul.” – John Muir

A few weeks ago I shared “Why I Paint.” Having a  good idea about “What I Paint” also keeps me on the trail.

Yes, I do love painting barns, birches, birds, and butterflies. But below the surface of any specific subject is a rich layer of “what” waiting to be explored.

What I Paint (a condensed list)

  1. Authenticity
  2. Nature
  3. Harmony
  4. Energy/Movement
  5. Integrity
  6. Relationships
  7. Balance
  8. Light
  9. Poetry
  10. Truth

And the Winners Are…

Each month I draw two random names from my list of “A Day in Vermont” email subscribers to win a free print of their choice.

It’s a fun way I can say thanks for your continued support.

Our first winner for October is Hannah Simon of Hoboken, NJ. Hannah chose “Mad River” and had this to say… “I would need more than a few sentences to articulate what Vermont means to me. There are too many reasons to count why I love Vermont. Vermont to me, means family.  It is walking through Grandpa’s garden, watching my Grandma greet us at her kitchen window after a 4 hour drive up to visit, as well as waving goodbye when we leave. Vermont is Thanksgiving and New Years weekends, boating at Lake St. Catherine, walks to the Covered Bridge, around the back road and tubing down the battenkill with our extended family. I love Vermont because I love the fresh air, the peace and quiet, the tranquility, and the way each bend in the road looks like “a wall of trees”. I selected ‘Mad River’ because it instantly reminded me of many trips down the Battenkill River and the feeling of laying in a tube listening to the rapids and watching the sun hit the trees. While a new subscriber to A Day in Vermont, I love that the weekly updates bring a little bit of Vermont to me down in New York.”

Our second winner is Sophie Evett of Arlington, MA. Sophie chose “Snow Moon” and had this to say…
“Whenever we return to Vermont (and for us that usually means central Vermont), as soon as we see the rolling hills covered in lush green trees, or the beautiful reds and oranges of fall, or the tree branches coated with snow, a sense of calm and warmth and peace settles on us. The natural beauty of this place heals the soul. And that beauty is reflected in so many of the paintings in A Day in Vermont so it was hard to settle on one. We have chosen Snow Moon, which captures those beautiful winter nights we love so much. Thank you!”

I’m ready with new boots to step onto this gorgeous trail and lose my mind & gain some serenity. Wonderful painting, Peter! In addition to savoring your paintings & commentary each week, it’s always a pleasure to read the notes written by those who have been chosen to receive a print of their choice. It’s heartwarming to read of their memories, attachment, and love of Vermont.

  • Beth Ann Rossi says:

Sophie and Hannah I’m so glad you now own a touch of Vermont thanks to Peter’s generosity. I enjoy his work as well and loved reading your comments. We all have a love affair with VERMONT. I think it’s infectious and pray to God there is never a vaccine that takes it away from us. Love the muted softness of your colors. Thank you Peter for our Monday FIX! 🙂

Your paintings are like being back in Vermont. Along with visiting the quaint and beautiful towns, admiring the scenery, my favorite think to do was hike different trails and mountains and seeing the amazing views from the top after a long hike. We also enjoyed biking some trails and biking around Lake Champlain. We stayed in Weston but spent each and every day exploring the beauty of Vermont. Your paintings give us that place we long for when stuck so far away! Thank you for sharing this beauty with the rest of us through your gift as a painter!

These autumn scenes are magical , Peter. It almost makes me want to paint landscapes rather than abstract!!! Well, almost I’ve been painting outside to experience that wonderful feeling that you talk about and enjoy painting these scenes in the abstract. Nothing can compare to your beautiful work, tho. Thank you for sharing your amazing art & heart with us!!
