Perennial Favorite May 11, 2015

The eager Daffodils are always among the first to bloom.

They were very patient this year.

This particular group seemed to be very happy about Spring’s arrival.

And they’re not alone!

“A house with daffodils in it is a house lit up, whether or no the sun is shining outside.” A.A. Milne

Are you ready for something new?

Like most artists, I like to “try stuff.” It comes with the territory.

Some ideas work out, while the rest just go into the recycle bin.

Time will tell where this one goes.

Here’s something I’d like to try, with the first event of its kind happening this Wednesday morning.

On the Spot with Peter Huntoon

“On the Spot” is an open invitation to join me on location while I create a new painting.

It’s an occasional opportunity to experience Vermont through the eyes of an artist.

Everyone is welcome!

Non artists (or those who have yet to pick up their brush) are invited to relax and watch the creative process unfold.

Fellow artists are invited to set up and work. Facing a creative challenge together is fun and educational for all.

This is a casual, friendly, non structured event.

No registration, no attendance, no pressure, and no charge.

Come as you are and leave when you wish.

As you probably know by now, I’m an artist in love with Vermont. Celebrating her beauty one painting at a time is my simple mission.

Sharing the artistic adventure with you is my privilege and pleasure.

I hope you can join me for an “On the Spot” painting experience soon!

And the Winner is…

Each month I give away free print to one random Day in Vermont subscriber. It’s one small way I can say thanks for your amazing support.

Congratulations to Jennifer Woodell of Rutland, Vermont, our new winner for May.

Jennifer chose “Paper Birch” and had this to say…

“Vermont is literally my “safe haven.” My family and I moved here after surviving a hurricane in Florida, and we felt at home immediately. Vermont offers such treasures: historic architecture, sprawling farms, beautiful wildlife, lakes and mountains that change with each season, and small town warmth – all of which you capture so exquisitely in your work. Your love and respect for your home is heartwarming, and what I love most about your paintings is that they invite me to walk right into them. Thank you so much… you are an inspiration!”

I would love to watch you at work. I am in NJ and about 350 miles from you. If you decide to do it again, please mention it at least one week in advance so that I might be able to get off of work and make the long trip.

That’s a long way to drive for a two hour dog and pony show Randy. But, I’ll let you know when the next one is. The tough part in planning is the weather. I think we will shoot for a Friday, around 5:30 PM next time. Where TBD…Thanks!

  • Carol says:

Thank you for sharing your love of our beautiful state.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

The more I paint the more beauty I find. Vermont is getting bigger all the time for an artist trying to paint it all. A good problem! Thanks Michelle

  • Brian Blaine says:

I can almost smell the damp earth and the delicate scents of early spring blooms! Your handling of this scene reminds me of another favorite artist of mine, Richard Schmid, especially in the way you have handled the foreground flowers and grasses. Nice frame too!

    • Denise Bach says:

Beautiful painting, and I love the idea, “on the spot”, for a sit-in or paint-in! Wish I could make it! Hopefully another day!

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thanks Brian, high praise indeed…RS is one of my heroes as well and has rightfully influenced many of today’s artists, including me. The frame usually helps! 🙂
