Shelburne Shoreline Jun 29, 2015
The shoreline along Lake Champlain is varied and stunning.
This rugged outcropping reaches out into the big lake from Shelburne Farms.
I guess it’s as close as we’ll come to “the coast” without leaving Vermont.
And more often than not for this Vermonter, it’s more than close enough.

Coast to Coast
Speaking of the coast, we did get to the ocean last week. I was fortunate to meet and paint with some new friends on Prince Edward Island. Sandi Komst and Mike Svob provided a fantastic workshop experience for a group of 20 talented artists. I learned a lot and had a blast. The lobsters were nervous. I’ll share a painting or two with you next week once I put the finishing touches on them, just before they head off to the gallery.
Important July Notes…
We’re planning another “On the Spot” adventure for Saturday, July 11. This is an opportunity to come out and paint with me, or just relax and watch the creative process unfold. We’ve been invited to paint at The President Calvin Coolidge State Historic Site in Plymouth Notch, Vermont. I’ll post all the details next week.
Also, I’ll be doing a painting demonstration at the Killington ART Garage on Friday evening, July 17. This event is being held in conjunction with the Killington Wine Festival. I understand that chocolate and wine will be a featured part of the evening. Need I say more? I’ll have more details on that soon, too.
Last but not least, each month one random Day in Vermont subscriber wins a free print of his/her choice. It’s one small way I can say thank you for your tremendous support. I’ll be drawing our winner for July soon. Good luck!
Beautiful!! Love the Shelburne shoreline!
Thanks Laurel!
I have a favorite view of Champlain, driving North and the lake finally appears, just love it. Your painting is as always, perfection Peter.
I think i know the spot you are talking about Nancy, another beauty. Thanks for all your support!
That picture brings back memories of the days we would vacation in Swanton at the shores of Lake Champlain. Such fun. Thanks for the memories.
You bet David, thanks!
Your mauves and lime green are stunning…love the variations of blues.
I so enjoy your work…M
This painting started out leaning a bit more true to life color-wise, but then I decided to push it some. Glad I did. Thanks Monique!
love this redition of the lake–nice
Thank you Carol!
ah yes…beautiful blues!
Thanks Christine! I hope you can come over paint at Plymouth with me.
What is the medium…acrylic? Was it done with a palette knife?
Hi Angie, this is oil on 12X16 linen panel. Mostly brush work, a little knife, and a lot of love.
Curious as to the medium you used…acrylic or oil? Done with palette knife? Beautiful!
See above, and thanks!
Harmonious color, simple shapes, rugged beauty. Poetry with the paintbrush!
Thanks very much Brian. I’ve never had a painting fail because the shapes were too simple. I hope you can come to Plymouth on the 11th.
Personnally I prefer the ocean but this lovely painting evokes the same feeling. Stunning!
Thanks Debi! It’s nice that we can enjoy and appreciate both, each environment with her own unique personality and flavor.
Hi Peter! Every time I get your “Day in Vermont” painting and comments, I wish I didn’t live in MA! I have never seen the “coast” of VT, have only spent time in the southern parts. Sometimes I think your “blogs” are as good as your paintings! (Nervous lobsters indeed!)
So glad you are enjoying it all Betsy. Me too!
I thoroughly enjoyed and recommend my trip to the Shelburne Museum and The Shelburne Farm when I busted VT in 2010 and 2013. I hope to return someday. Your painting is awesomely wonderful and completely captures the shoreline. It was a grey rainy day when we visited, but this reminds me of its beauty!
Thank you Bonnie, very much!
Hi Peter,
Did the Shelburne Shoreline sell? If not, I need it! Thanks.
Greg
