Spring Dance May 4, 2020

The backyard has been busy.

Bouncing Robins are building new nests.

The sound of woodpeckers rattle through the trees.

Blue Jays squawk and the bluebird houses are taken.

This Tom was strutting his stuff for a long time last week.

I’m not sure she ever noticed.

We have a raft of thirteen turkeys right here in Roanoke, VA strutting their stuff and very proud of themselves. I can totally relate to this painting Peter. Thank you for the Monday morning smile.

  • Ronald Lewis says:

Well done, my friend! From a “feather master” to a “brush master,” you’ve painted these feathers beautifully. I can feel the tension in this scene, Peter, which is a sign of a “true master.”

  • Deborah Steele says:

Love the Tom dances this time of year-the hens do tend to look more closely at a bit of food rather than the suitor. You captured that shade of blue in his wattle!

  • cynthia adams says:

Very colorful….. it’s what we need . BUT>>>.no turkey trot here!

  • Sheila McCormack says:

There’s Tom strutting and posturing. Alas, to no avail in this time of social distancing. ~ As always, I love the painting! Your accompanying commentary is always a very enjoyable bonus, too. I wonder about the time and thought that goes into naming a painting and writing the commentary. Every component of your weekly emails is looked forward to and appreciated. Thanks, Peter.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thanks Sheila! The commentary and artwork are similar in that some are a real challenge and take a very long time, while others seem to fall into place quickly and easily. Both avenues can lead to a wonderful result, and a complete crash and burn alternative is always possible, too. That’s what keeps it interesting! I can say that by the time I have worked my way through the entire painting process from initial inspiration to my signature, I usually have a “story” in mind to go along with it.

  • Brian Blaine says:

Colors, textures, and composition, all contribute in a special way to this delightful painting. It tells such a story without need for a single word!

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thanks Brian! I love the quote by Hopper, and somewhat related to my comment above; “If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint.”

  • risk says:
