Spring Lambs May 1, 2014
All the young animals appear at this time of year.
They’re frisky, curious, and playful… little fountains of youthful exuberance.
Good attributes for any artist.
These spring lambs were taking a nice nap on a hillside with mom.
Without a care in the world, I wonder where their day-dreams take them?

Mom used to make her famous Lamb Cake every Easter.
It has been a perpetual source of laughter for our family…. and tears for mom when the cake crumbled coming out of the mold.
Thanks to my sister Lyn the family tradition lives on. Mom would be proud!
And just so you know, I’ll be announcing our Free Print winner for May next Thursday on the 8th.
Warmest regards,
Peter

Can’t wait to throw some paint around with old and new friends Sally, thanks for the class reminder!
Wonderful painting, Peter! And great job, Lyn, on the Lamb Cake!
Thanks Barby!
lovely! never had a lamb cake!
Thanks Christine, I’ll save you a slice next year!
Love the painting of the lambs and the watchful Mother. Your painting really captures the wonder of nature. I love the lamb cake, you should paint it too 🙂
Thanks Margaret, I don’t know if I could do Lyn’s cake justice with paint
The lambs remind me of my grandfather’s farm in Berlin, VT. He used to raise sheep and I remember the little lambs. Boy, were they fast when they escaped the pastures! We kids had fun chasing them when we visited the farm! Mom used to make that cake, too!
Thanks for the good memories David!
Love the warmth of the painting; beautiful! And, love the picture of the lamb cake. My mother made the lamb cake every Easter and even molded a lamb out of butter. Our daughter, Erin, and I continue the tradition every year. Good for you, Lyn!
Sounds like your mom was a real artist. A butter lamb must have made quite a centerpiece. Thanks Susan!
Sweet lamb painting…and my mother used to make a lamb cake, then I made it, and recently I gave the cake mold to my daughter….
Three generations certainly qualifies for a family tradition. I had no idea there were “others” out there, but glad to hear there are. Thanks Linda!
I love to see the new lambs of Spring. It always brings me great joy. Thanks for sharing your painting.
Thank you Elise!
This is just so beautiful…My grandmother was a shepherdess in Vilna, Poland…yea, so many years ago….but this pastoral portrait speaks volumes to me. THANKS, Peter…for sharing your amazing gift of imagery!
Thanks Victoria, much appreciated!
I can’t resist – I think the Lamb cake is the perfect picture!
Me too!
As a fiber artist I am always working with wool. I am a collector of sheep……and I think your lamb watercolor is awesome. New born lambs and spring peepers are the sure sign that Spring has arrived in Vermont !!
Thank you Dayle, I love the earthy quality of wool. Nature gives us many great gifts!
Love this pic and your use of colors.Beautifully done.
Thanks very much Kathy!
wonderful painting and the violet color makes it so special and vibrant. Personally, I cant understand how folks can eat these little guys. That fact always makes me sad. Onlyok to eat them if they are cake!
Thank you Sukie, I really enjoyed working with the color on this one….a balance between restraint and pushing the limits. The cake was indeed delicious!
Love the seasonal painting and the cake too! Beautiful!
Thanks very much Sue!
Peter I love the warm of the mother and her lambs and even in Virginia we do lamb cakes!
Driving home to Va. after 6 weeks staying in the Vermont Inn. In my usual hast to get well from a broken hip,I managed to dislocate the hip not once
, but twice! We will be back up for the grand opening of the Restaurant in July, in the meantime keep painting those awesome images of Vermont. We will be moving up before the year is up.
I really enjoyed meeting you and will see you soon.
Olivia
