Springfield Vermont Apr 25, 2016
Downtown Springfield bustled along, indifferent to my presence.
Painting there last week was like seeing her for the first time. She was beautiful and I was smitten.
“What I have not drawn, I have never really seen. Once you start drawing an ordinary thing, a fly, a flower, a face, you realize how extraordinary it is – a sheer miracle.” Frederick Frank (from The Zen of Seeing)

I like it! Finally, Springfield depicted in the good light it deserves!
I really did fall in love upon my visit last week Steve…I had not been there in a long time and saw beauty (and potential painting subjects) everywhere. The perfect sunny 70 degree day helped too!
Just as I remembered it!
Thanks David!
You’ve made this stretch of Springfield look so warm and inviting. Love it!
Thank you Diane!
I love how you look at a scene- and can see beyond- to its aura; and then capture that vibrancy. Well done!
It’s a wonderful, mysterious process this art, Gail. In a way, I just do my best to put myself in a position to start and succeed, and then get out of the way and let it happen. Thanks!
Love the colors! Makes the scene friendly and vibrant. Go Springfield!
I was in a happy place painting this Marica, and I’m glad it shows. Thanks!
Absolutely beautiful!! I grew up in Springfield! It looks so bright, colorful and cheery just like I remember it!! You are a great talent!
Thanks Angie, is a thrill to be able to share all this with nice people like you.
I like that you chose the view w/ both churches, and put nice colors (helps make it more ‘Spring ‘(field). As a child my family had close friends there and later I lived in town for a while in the 70’s. So glad for Mondays! Cindy
Thanks so much Cindy, I forget why I chose Mondays for posting now, but I’m glad it worked out for all of us.
It is so nice to see a town with visible stores, churches, etc. instead of interstates and drive in malls! This seems to be fast disappearing! Thank you Peter for capturing a moment of my childhood as my own downtown is mostly abandoned buildings, banks and sadly not much else anymore!
My pleasure Mary, thanks very much!
Springfield will always hold a special spot in my heart. My father worked in a machine shop there many years ago before I was born. My grandmother lived there for much of her life and worked until old age at Pollard’s Store downtown where she bought me a pound of Mt Holly cheese for a gift sometimes. It was my favorite cheese. This was a long time ago, and I am now getting older myself, reaching age 70 before the year is out. Thank God for memories and paintings such as yours.
Once you look beyond a glance, you can see and feel a deep history here in Springfield. I felt it for sure while painting this. Happy birthday, young man!
I check my email on my lunch hour and your paintings always make me feel good, thanks.
A very sweet comment John, thank you very much!
