Woodstock Reflections Apr 4, 2016

The rain-soaked streets of Woodstock Vermont reflect the light of a gray April day.

I always feel closer to nature out in the cool rain.

It wakes me up to focus my attention on the present moment.

A good place for an artist to be.

A Love Story

Art has an amazing ability to connect us. To each other, and ourselves.

As an artist, it has been my pleasure to meet so many wonderful people.

It has also been my privilege to get to know some of their personal stories.

Today, it’s my honor to share one with you.

Meet Judy and Rob Aird of Frederick, Maryland…

From Judy: “This commissioned piece captures the essence of our beginning. We were maybe 10 years into our now 50-year love affair. The image in the painting is indicative of how close and adventurous our lives together have been and reminds us to find happiness in every adventure in life, even when it rains. To know that Rob and our daughter Sarah made it happen makes it all more precious. A love story like ours gives hope and deserves to be shared. It also marked a time in our life when we were recovering from a battle with cancer and reminds us to savor every day.”

From Rob: “My acquaintance with Peter Huntoon started in the business world we shared. How appropriate is it that he was the “color expert” for a major manufacturer? We’re so pleased that he chose to include us in his list of subscriber admirers. Thank you Peter, for underscoring our life together.”

Your picture of Woodstock so reflects the city’s character. I love the Love Story!

  • Steve Heim says:

This is incredible, Peter. I’m thinking of El Greco picture, not sure why.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thank you Steve, I feel I walked into some brand new territory with this one. As an artist you know those can be among the most satisfying.

  • Brian Blaine says:

The second I saw this week’s painting my reaction was, “Wow, what a great rendition of atmosphere on a rainy morning”. Use of negative space, interesting angles, and a pleasing balance of warm and cool colors ,all contribute to a pleasing composition

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thanks very much Brian, I was aiming for an atmospheric mood on this one from the get go. While I have long understood “ariel perspective”, it’s not something I have consciously emphasised in my work too much. This piece definitely asked for it.

  • Mary Fran says:

A picture says a thousand words….your beautiful painting of “A Love Story” so eloquently displays this wonderful moment in time for your friends to forever hold close to their hearts. WOW! Love it, Peter.

    • Peter Huntoon says:

They are amazing people and I couldn’t be prouder to play a small role in their love story. Thanks Mary Fran!

  • Susan says:

Honoring your friends is so special; Judy’s reaction surely confirms that. Woodstock! Not far from my home stomping grounds…Hartland/Hartford/Quechee Always glad it’s Monday. Cindy

  • Rebecca Rimson says:

Sunny days can be breathtakingly spectacular, but where I live in No. Calif. redwood country, it’s the rainy and gray days that create the deeper moods/nuances/intensity. Some of my best photographs are on just such one of those days. Thank you once again for your many moods!

    • Peter Huntoon says:

The more I paint, the more I come to see and appreciate the incredible variety and nuances that nature has to offer. She is always beautiful when we take the time to look. Thanks Rebecca!

  • Doris Michel says:

The rain was also a great thing for the impressionists. Pissarro and Caillebotte painted the street life on rainy days. The reflections of water and wet streets fascinated nearly all of them. It’s a main theme. Your Woodstock is colorful and well done. Thanks for the “Love Story”. So nice. Greetings from a rainy day in Duisburg. Doris

    • Peter Huntoon says:

Thanks for the kind comparison Doris. Perhaps I’ll explore this theme further myself. I really enjoyed going to the “dark side” a bit. Yes, a true story of love is always an inspiration!

  • Maxine says:

I have a wonderful new reason to look forward to Mondays now. I love your works so much!!
