The Maclure Library in Pittsford is a beloved local institution inside and out. This painting began on location in October and was completed in the studio last week.
Thank you to all of Vermont’s libraries! Each one seems to have its own distinctive architecture and design, yet they all share that familiar, cozy, welcoming vibe. The first deliberate steps I took toward becoming an artist were through the door of the Rutland Free Library. The “how-to-paint” section was waiting for me inside. Books have been a primary source of inspiration and influence ever since.
As has become customary each January, I’ll be taking a winter break from A Day in Vermont to hibernate in the studio as a student. Deliberate practice and experimentation are solid investments in artistic growth. While the cold wind howls outside, I’ll also catch up on studio tasks that take a backseat to painting the rest of the year.
It will soon be the 13th anniversary of A Day in Vermont. Together, we’ve shared 536 paintings. As 2025 comes to a close, I want to thank you once again for your continued interest and tremendous support. I plan to return with A Day in Vermont on Monday, April 6. Until then, all the best for 2026!
“That perfect tranquility of life, which is nowhere to be found but in retreat, a faithful friend and a good library.” Aphra Behn
