Spring Spires May 4, 2026
The call of the wild. This painting depicts the lower end of Buttermilk Falls on Branch Brook in Ludlow, Vermont. I chose a strong vertical format to emphasis the dynamic energy of the spring runoff. The rugged bones of the landscape are exposed for a lingering moment, before new life explodes. Everything is waking up! And everyone. On my way to paint I heard someone just saw a black bear with two cubs at the falls. Although I didn’t see them, I sure was looking.
