Townshend Village Green Jul 14, 2025
For this painting I set up along Rt. 30 with a good view of the village green. I’ve always enjoyed the drive between Bromley and Brattleboro and Townshend lands just about midway in between. Started on location in April, it waited patiently on my “in-process” shelf to be completed. All in all I like to keep my creative process loose. I count on serendipity and generally go with the flow. An exception to that approach is establishing a deadline. We all must develop personal strategies to get the work done. I start a lot paintings because it’s exciting and it’s where I learn the most. Completing them often demands a bit more wherewithal. A Day in Vermont has been a great way to share my work, but it’s also a good example of self-imposed discipline. Mondays are my deadline. That means a lot of paintings get signed on Sunday.
Parkinson’s Law: “Work expands fit the time available for its completion.”
Original Sold. Next Day in Vermont Monday July 28.

The Townshend Common—How wonderful! I work just around the corner.
