Cold Snap Jan 2, 2014
An early morning sun spotlights a distant mountain ridge with radiant color.
An optimist (or new Vermonter) might believe that orange glow means a nice warm day ahead.
An old Vermonter heads to the woodshed for an extra load.
An old Vermont artist snaps a quick photo while his fingers and camera still work, and scurries back to the studio.

What color is the sky in your world?
I am honored and humbled to receive a fair number of questions.
For some important topics including art, there are few definitive answers.
There are however subjective opinions.
And for what they’re worth, I’m happy to offer mine.
My answers may not be yours.
But through sharing we help each other find our way along our own path.
What I think I know today is bound to change tomorrow, or by next year.
I contradict myself often.
Artistic growth finds fertile ground in an open mind…ready, willing, and able to change.
That’s an official blanket disclaimer for my 2014 posts.
Recent Question: I was curious to know that lately the paintings, though they are beautiful and amazing, why they are mostly cloudy skies? I was curious if it’s the weather, or if you have a preference with skis/weather/color/lighting in your paintings.
Stay tuned for my answer on the next Day in Vermont…Monday.
I always become so excited when I see your newest adventure put on canvas. You capture the true essence of our life in beautiful Vermont and makes us realize what a privilege it is to live surrounded by such beauty in every season. We want all your paintings! The ones we have are a constant reminder of our blessings! Thank you and Happy New Year.
Thanks so much for all the support Muriel!
I’m on the edge of my seat, can’t wait for Monday!
I can’t wait either Rebekah…I am in the formidable process of figuring out the answer!
Happy New Year Peter. Looking forward to Monday. The roofline on the house in this work made me think of the Paw House when it had barns all around it back in the 1960s.
Thanks Brian, I love a good winter roofline!
Lovely, Peter. Happy New Year!
And to you Helen!
I am excited to be a new inductee to your art, Peter. The colors’ tones are so muted and lovely. REminds me of so many Vermont farmsteads in my growing-up years here as a native. You trurly capture the essence of what we natives know of our gorgeously beautiful state, even in this, one of the coldest nights. BRR. Your warm hues bring extra warmth to my world.Happy New Year.
Thanks so much Sukie, I’m glad we found each other. Stay warm!!
I ‘ve just recently discovered your work and don’t know how I’ve managed to miss it. I am awestruck at your ability to capture the very essence of Vermont!
Thank you very much Helen, I think like many of us here, Vermont is in my bones. It just comes out somehow in my brush and art.
Who’s the comedian outbidding me by 1/2 a buck???? 🙂
Thanks for bidding Sebastian!
