Tinmouth Twilight Jan 12, 2015
twi-light noun
- the soft glowing light from the sky when the sun is below the horizon, caused by the refraction and scattering of the sun’s rays from the atmosphere.
It was a cold and windy week but I finally ventured out on Friday to find a new subject to paint.
I found it on my way home for supper, the last (and best) shot of the day.

And the winner is…
Each month I give away a free print to one random Day in Vermont subscriber.
It’s one small way to say thanks for your amazing support.
Using random.org to generate a winning number, I then match that with my subscriber list to find the winning name.
Our winner for January is Monica McEnerny of Castleton, Vermont.
Monica chose the print “Castleton“, and had this to say…
“I love Vermont because it awakens the senses. Peter’s paintings remind me of being awake and alive in Vermont.”
Congratulations Monica, and thank you!

How pretty. Love the setting sun over the lake. Glorious!
Thanks David!
Stunning! Winter in its cold beauty with a touch of nature’s own “hearth fire” to warm the day’s last memory.
Nature is full of complementary and contrasting elements. In this case color…blue/orange, and temperature…cool/warm. Thank you Victoria!
Absolutely beautiful! I can “be there” looking at this painting. Gorgeous. Thank you again for sharing you gift with us.
You know it’s my pleasure Wendi, thanks!
I love it sunny and chilly,a winner all the way! I hope I get it!,
Thanks so much Olivia, if it was meant to be….
i know that pond-marsh well..passed it often on my way to tinmouth for dog classes..saw it in all of it’s moods..lovely!
I always slow down on my way through this stretch…so many personalities and moods, always changing. Thanks Doris!
Simply Beautiful. I could feel the brisk air through your painting.
It was indeed brisk, especially the icy wind. Thanks Julie!
Beautiful work! Twilight is marvelous!
Thank you Barbara!
Twilight is stunning. The colors are so real
I am really enjoying working with blue the last couple of paintings. This one begged for Ultramarine. Thanks Deanie!
Sweet, gentle and inspiring…..the colors and shine lift you up!
Thanks Michelle. I have to admit I was pretty happy with this one when I finished. It’s my first official “sunset” painting that I recall ever doing. There will likely be more someday.
Absolutely gorgeous!
Thank you Mary!
This is a beauty! We look forward to every Monday to see what you have painted. Tinmouth is beautiful in every nook and cranny. Love this one!
Thanks Muriel, me too! Meaning it’s part of the fun for me too, never knowing what subject is going to fall from the sky. As the week wears on the pressure mounts. When a subject gracefully appears from heaven, like this one, the angels sing… and I get busy.
Fabulous!
Thanks Marcia!
To me this is more than a beautiful painting. It is stillness, it is peace,it is long ago times remembered. It is nourishment for the eye, and for the spirit. Thank you.
Thanks for the beautiful comment Brian!
Spectacular! Amazing capture of the reflective light on the icy lake and the highlight on the distant mountain draws you in. Crisp, clean, ethereal. You took me there Peter..thank you!
The blue of that distant mountain against the yellow orange sky riveted me when I saw it. I just did my best to humbly honor Mother Nature with paint. When I do that, things tend to work out well. Thank you Joan!
Truly*Truly Beautiful Peter!!! I’m not usually a ”BLUE” person….in colors (….or character!!)
……but this just really ”hit me”!!! LOVE IT!!! =D
I think I feel the same about blue Carol, but I think I’m going to delve a little deeper into the blues this winter… color-wise that is. Thank you very much!
Love the colors in this painting. I recognize this place as being close to my daughter’s and son-in-law farm. I’m always intrigued by the the mysteriousness profected in this setting, and you have captured it here.
Thank you much Linda, and I agree this area has a mysterious quality, especially in the fading light.
Sunsets especially winter ones are my favorite; to me they r a promise of spring
I’ll be thinking of your optimistic words this morning when I’m out taking photos, minus 5 degrees right now as I head out the door. Thanks Anita!
Hi Peter My bid is for 380.00
Looks like you are all set in the bidding process Anita, thank you! Just let me know if I can help.
This painting is really special !
Thanks so much Anita, much appreciated!
My dad, Roland Wilbur, was born and raised in the farmhouse in Tinmouth next to the church. My mom and sister are buried in the family plot in the cemetery there. What a lovely piece of work. Great colors.
Thanks very much for the comment Mari. Yes, Tinmouth is a very special place for many of us.
So Beautiful! Happy to have seen it in the beginning stages. Thanks for the invitation to your studio.. It was great fun!
Thanks Trish, it was great to have you at the studio. Your painting was just waiting here for you. I was right about the painting…I easily spent another 5 hours on it, but I’m happy to report that the initial energies of the early stages were preserved.
Peter this is beautiful, I am a beginner painter, took a few local classes but pretty much self taught.,and truly love your painting & style. I have tried a sunset painting a couple of times. Much more difficult then it looks. So Gladstone part of your group here. Thanks again Chris
Glad to have you on board Christine, and happy painting!
Really happy to have discovered you through Facebook. Very few artists attract my attention and your work gives me pause and helps me appreciate even more where I live and work and love. Thank you.
Thank you very much Marie, I like to think of my paintings as a two way conversation. Now we’re talking. 🙂
The weather kept the post office from delivering Tinmouth Twilight . Can’t wait to get it
