Burlington Bay Sep 8, 2025
This painting began on a beautiful afternoon at Burlington’s Perkins Pier last week. I actually spent two evenings there absorbing the vibrant scene. A standout attribute on this particular visit was the dramatic light sparkling across Burlington Bay, seeping into, around, and through all the familiar waterfront attractions. Just as I was wondering what to do with the left side of the canvas, the Spirit of Ethan Allen glided perfectly into position. Another good day in Vermont, and a fitting way to bid summer adieu.
And to really go out with a splash… I just finished a new painting of a very old subject. The “Old Pool” was built in 1929 and closed in 1972. I’ve had a number of requests for this one over the years, and I finally decided to go for it. Working from an old postcard image and vivid personal memories, it was a wild trip down memory lane to paint. Anyone who grew up swimming here has a story. It may be a parking lot now but for many like me, it’s still hallowed ground. “The Old Pool” 18X28 Oil on linen panel. Original and prints HERE.
Original (“Burlington Bay”) Sold. Next Day in Vermont Monday, Sept 22.

Yes Peter this is wonderful! When you open it up you can feel fall in the air around you with the sun on the colors and shadows! Indeed Summer slipping away.
