Center Rutland Falls Apr 21, 2025

The mighty Otter Creek flows over Center Rutland Falls, just off Rt 4A. Although I’ve driven by countless times, I never explored it for a possible painting before last autumn. I started it on location in  October and finally went for the finish last week.

The initial (2 hour) “plein air” start was good. It had what I like to call “three chords and the truth”. Like the blues in music, just the barest raw essentials… with feeling! With so much going on in this scene, I knew it would be a challenge to pull it all together. Some paintings benefit from a substantial rest between start and finish. That’s a nice way of saying I needed time to figure out what to do next!

Great piece! The waterfall, sky, fall leaves and countless beauties nature has to offer.
You said it would be a challenge to put all pieces together but somehow have the ability to make it work.

    You are a true inspiration!
