East Poultney Autumn Nov 18, 2024
The autumn color may be gone outside, but I still have a number of fall paintings to work on and finish in the studio. Yay!
This smaller 9X12 piece began as a quick study from a recent photo from the bridge. I was instantly enchanted with the fine gradient of vivid blue receding into the distance, set deep into the warm tones of autumn. Intent on not losing that idea, I grabbed the closest panel to quickly ” jot down a few color notes”. Within the first dozen brushstrokes however, it was already a keeper. When that happens and it occasionally does, there’s no turning back!
“The start of a painting, like the start of a rocket’s flight, is the most important stage. For better or worse, it sets the course for all that will follow.” Richard Schmid
