Heaven’s Gate Dec 16, 2024

This painting began on location “en plein air” earlier this fall. I finished it in the studio last week.

“Benson View” was my original working title for this grand Vermont vista on Benson Road near Lake Hortonia. I also considered “Pleasant Valley”, an aptly named road nearby. When “Heaven’s Gate” popped into my head as an option late in the painting, the contest was over.

One of my favorite elements of the scene were the pigeons coming and going from the barn rooftops. I love to watch the sky-dance of a flock in flight, drifting and darting with divine grace and ebullient joy. Could be angels.

Since my next post will be on Monday, Dec 30, I’ll take this opportunity to wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas to you and your family too. On a separate note, my sister is thrilled with the print you shipped. The Paw House, aka “Aunt Ceil’s” to us is a very special place for our family.
