Spring on Center May 19, 2025

This painting features Center Street in downtown Rutland, all dressed up in her spring glory. After choosing a nice spot on the shady side of the street, I set up and settled into the zone. The blossoming fruit trees were especially attractive, and it’s always fun to see how many steeples and spires I can sneak in.

This particular day in Vermont was also a little trip down memory lane for me. My hometown of Rutland has long been a favorite subject and motif. How long? Somehow, someway, it’s been 27 years since I did my first painting here. “Fall on Center” became my first limited edition print in 1998. I remember my young self sitting on my studio stoop (Tuttle Building) with a stack of hot-off-the-press prints and hawking them to startled passerby. It worked! My career as a “professional artist” was officially underway.

I often say “I couldn’t have done it without you.” It’s a true statement that honors you and your tremendous support. From the very beginning, it’s been my privilege and pleasure to share this creative journey with you. Thank you!

Beautiful painting of Rutland town. I have been through there many times to visit friends. Not surprised it sold quickly!

It’s so nice to see some things hardly change. I’ve driven this road many times in the late ’60’s & 70’s. I can close my eyes and see this exact spot. OR I can open my eyes and see your beautiful painting. Thank you so much for keeping Vermont alive for me.
