The Old Farmstead Jul 18, 2022

I started this large painting in May on location at Miller Hill Farm in Sudbury. What first got my attention was the field of flowers. As as explored the property further I quickly decided the series of buildings and barns would be the main subject.

There’s a timeless authenticity, charm, and character to be found in Vermont’s old farmsteads. Often built over several generations, the rugged structures have shifted and settled into the earth itself. Here, I envisioned the buildings gradually unfolding into the distance, like the present unfolds and merges into the past.

Original sold. Next painting post Monday, Aug 1, 10:30AM EST.

Your description of unfolding buildings like Christmas presents was a lovely word description.Like you, I enjoy how these old houses settle into the earth at their own pace. Then they blend into the countryside around them. It’s a comfortable arrangement for us and Mother Nature. Thank you, as always, for the eye candy Mr. Peter.

I LOVE the barns of Vermont, one of my favorites. Because of that I agree the barns were the main focus and realize why I love thus painting so much

I love the sky in the scene you were painting but it would have detracted from your painting…..perhaps. Thanks for your journey.
