Winter’s Last Stand Apr 10, 2014
Sometimes an artist has to make a choice.
This scene along Route 100 in Killington garbed my attention on Tuesday.
And despite my best intention to paint a warm spring scene, this one prevailed.
If there is one thing I’ve learned in art it’s to follow my heart.
It always seems to lead to the right place.

Oh beautify and so evocative! Makes me miss my second home. Your wonderful website continues to be my touch stone to Vermont and your work. Thanks
And Vermont misses you Diane, me included. I’m glad we can stay connected here!
That is such a neat picture and reminds me so much of Vermont during the Spring. I can’t see that here in Georgia. Thanks for showing it.
Thanks David, I appreciate your support!
It was a great choice to paint this scene and you did a mighty fine job, Peter. Really beautiful!
Thank you Barby, the mountain is looking a little greener across the valley toward your house.
That’s a beauty Peter.
Thanks Joe!
Majestic winter scene with the promise of spring,I love it!
Thank you Olivia, this scene is right up the road from where you are.
Beautiful picture. Reminds me of places in the Northeast Kingdom.
I’m going to have to make a pilgrimage to the NEK one of these days with my gear. Can’t wait!
You will love the Northeast Kingdom. Such a beautiful yet secluded area of Vermont.
Ever since I signed up for your “Day in VT” series, I have seen some beautiful watercolors of beautiful places. I must say, this one is my #1 favorite! As a photographer, I would have been led to this scene just as you – “If there is one thing I’ve learned in art it’s to follow my heart.
It always seems to lead to the right place.” This looks like just the right place to me! Thanks for sharing – I may have to order a print of this!
My pleasure Betsy, thank you. Glad we found each other.
Just beautiful but I am not ready for winter to be over. Your tranquil snow pictures and just so relaxing to admire. Please keep the snow painting coming. Have you ever painted the suger & spice sugerhouse or the beautiful birds at the West Rutland marsh area.?
Thank you Marie, I have painted Sugar and Spice and a couple of West Rutland Marsh birds. Here are the links… https://peterhuntoon.com/shop/sugar-and-spice/ https://peterhuntoon.com/shop/blackbird-cattails/ https://peterhuntoon.com/shop/the-last-apple/
You have captured another Vermont moment. Thank you for getting us through this winter…now on to spring!
It’s been a long one for sure, thanks Arlene for all your support!
Man – another wonderful scene.
Thanks Mike!
I especially love the way you handled the trees…and the water and snow. I guess I love the way you did the whole painting :>) ! Thanks for all your wonderful work.
You’re cute Edie, thank you

Love this piece. Very tranquil. Reminds me of southern Illinois. Where can I find the video of this painting in progress? Looked all over your website. Thanks and happy painting!
Thank you Karen. We have only done videos for a few paintings…including the previous post, Vermont Sugarhouse. Sorry we can’t do a video for every painting!
