Woodstock Winter Feb 13, 2023

Welcome back to A Day in Vermont! I hope this finds you well and off to a good start for 2023. I know the groundhog saw his shadow but I could taste Spring in the sunshine yesterday.

Today’s painting was inspired by a recent visit to Woodstock. The fresh snow turned the entire town into a winter dreamscape. Here, the Windsor County Courthouse and the Norman Williams Public Library set stately against the snow.

As you may know I took a little winter break this year to recharge and reset. It was just what I needed.

In the studio I experimented, studied, and dug deep. My general aim was to circle back to the fundamentals of art for a solid review. That, and unlearning some bad habits accrued along the way.

In the shop I made a quantity of painting panels that should last several years. Also, I spent way too much time tinkering around with my painting gear and tools. Gosh how love it though.

My approach to art continues to evolve, yet I often feel I’ve only glimpsed the possibilities of personal artistic expression. Those are the best moments. There’s always more to learn and room to grow.

Whatever change has occurred in my work over the years, some things remain the same: My love for painting Vermont, my utter fascination with the creative process, and my sincere gratitude for your interest and support. Thank you for sharing this adventure!

Hi Peter! This painting really warmed my heart when I opened my email today. It’s such a beautiful blend of bright reds, white, warmth, winter and VT. Love it! Miss you and hope to catch up soon. Still would love to have you come and paint the pub. I have a beautiful place you both can stay as well! Time to make this dream come true 🙂 Think of a time that would work this summer.

I am so glad that you have been refreshed and renewed. Although I haven’t been to Vermont, I feel as though I would love to be there. Your artwork has a calming and peaceful effect. I feel like I am “home”. Yet I did not grow up in an area such as this. Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us. God Bless.

We just watched Chronicle on tv and just are passionate about Vermont. It’s Gods Country❤️! My husband and I met in Brattleboro in 1979 and just celebrated our 43 wedding anniversary in October. We have been visiting relatives in VT for decades after moving to Massachusetts. Thank you for inspiring us with your gorgeous work .
