Vanishing Act Mar 30, 2015
Now you see them, now you don’t.
Deer melt away into the enchanted forest like scattered patches of spring snow.
On the move now they can feel the tide of the season turn.
And so can we.
It’s in the air, under foot, but still just out of sight.
Vermont is full of Magic.

Here is a new video showing the Frame Shop in my studio. Enjoy!
“Spring is when you feel like whistling even with a shoe full of slush.” Doug Larson
Loved the video– enjoyed watching a professional do what he loves. Carol
Thanks very much Carol, I do enjoy framing…and I do love to turn it over when it’s all done to see the finished piece for the first time. The “Ta Da!” moment. 🙂
Vermont is just full of magic!
Everywhere we look Nance!
I miss seeing deer in the forest. We don’t have the herds down here in Georgia. Sometimes, you see one or two early in the morning, but nothing like you do in Vermont.
They are running together in big groups right now David. At least that’s what I herd.
I like how your paintings remind me of my youth, thanks. DAN
And I like how my paintings remind you of your youth too. Thanks Dan!
Great painting Peter, as usual! I must say, you surely make framing look easy…as we who have tried it on our own, know better. You do such a great job at it & I know there’s nothing but quality going into it. Congratulations on another new & exciting venture. How lucky we artists are to have you here to do the hard work for us. 🙂
I think I’m the lucky one to have such tremendous support. So I guess we all win. As for framing, practice makes perfect, and I’ve had just a little practice over the last 20 years or so. Thanks Mary Fran!
Well, that was fun to watch! As someone who does her own framing (although with mats and frames that I get from favorite suppliers over the internet) I have just one question: where are your under-the-breath frustrated mutterings and occasional swearing? Were they edited out? Peter, I just love your work.
Funny Jane, yes there is an occasional moment of disappointment in the frame shop. The most common one for me is finding that tiny spec of something AFTER it’s all buttoned up. Take it apart! My eyes are not quite as sharp as they once were.
Through the winter, the deer in Vermont appear more of a gray than a red -brown. As snow melts they shed their heavy coats and don the brighter colors of spring. Nice painting and video. Looks like you’re as skilled at the framing as you are at painting. Nice neat workshop too!
I’m watching seven deer out my window right now Brian. (probably the same ones I painted the other day) You are correct, their colors are changing. Yes, I tend to keep my work spaces fairly organized. It’s the only way I can keep all the balls in the air. I let the chaos happen on the canvas, especially in the early stages of the painting.
Wonderful job…looks so easy. Love your work.
Everything is easy with practice, thanks very much Marion!
