Our first winner is Trish Patty Stewart Minard of Littleton, CO. Patty chose “Garden Glory” and had this to say…
“Vermont even though I haven’t lived there for over 45 years is Home. I feel a sense of peace every time I get back to Vermont. Rutland was such a great place to grow up… Still have family and friends there. We try to visit places in Vermont we have never been to. Peter’s paintings help keep Vermont vivid in my memories. I presently have several of his prints, my first was Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, the church I grew up in and got married in. I also had the privilege of attending one of his watercolor demonstrations. It was fascinating!! A trip to Gill’s Delicatessen and Ted’s Pizza (subjects in two of his paintings) are a must when we go home. During the summer we still attend Sunday Band concerts (Sunday Bandstand Painting). We have visited many of the places he’s painted and plan to visit some of the other parts of Vermont he’s painted. Peter has a way of making all of Vermont inviting and a place you want to see and enjoy. Thank you Peter for helping to keep the beauty of Vermont alive and available for everyone especially us who live out of state…. Keep on painting and I’ll keep loving your work.”
Our second winner is Joe Roe of Rutland, VT. Joe chose “August Arrangement” and had this to say…
“Vermont is covered bridges, white ski trail, beautiful views, icy roads :-), babbling brooks and bears in the yard. It’s quiet and peaceful and the stars are magnificent on a clear winters nite. Peter was my mentor as I started my attempt at Watercolor. Thru his expertise, kindness and encouragement I have some good results. Thank you Peter, from a person who couldn’t draw a stick figure to, now, a signature member of VWS.”
My first experience with Norwich University was as a Boy’s State delegate in my 3rd year of high school. That was many years ago but the campus looks much the same. A beautiful painting, Peter, with fond memories for me of an earlier time.

Wonderful painting of the Norwich University campus. This reflection brings me back to my time on the Hill in the old green uniforms and with the ski slope in the background. Beautifully done!

Your painting evokes the same feelings I experience whenever I fondly recall the days of marching down from the UP to Harmon Hall and first, second or third mess. Rain or shine, hot or bitter cold, Vermont’s mountains provided a beautiful backdrop to Ainsworth and Harmon Halls, and White Chapel that never disappointed, never failed to lift my spirits – as happening upon your “Norwich” painting has done.
