Spring Lake Jun 12, 2023

Welcome back to A Day in Vermont!

Spring Lake sits on top of the world in Cuttingsville. I was invited to visit and got the grand tour. Thank you Chris Colm! I returned twice with my easel during May. From the shore where I painted, Pico and Killington rise in the distance off to the north.

It’s been a while since my last post. Along with some planned time off I used my sick days for the year, but all better now. There’s often a silver lining to setbacks. I’ve found that returning to form following adversity serves to magnify my appreciation for beauty and gratitude for life. Yet another chance and new beginning, a season of Spring. Optimism pervades and poetic insights abound. In my line of work that’s a very fine state of affairs.

Original Sold. Next Day in Vermont Monday, June 26.

Hello Peter, this lake is very beautiful. I think it’s also a quiet place. Perhaps you are looking for those places to relax for a workflow in front of nature with singing birds in the forest and ripple waves on the shore of the lake.
I have an idea: it would be nice to paint the white umbrella with your easel on the path. That could be a delicate still life. Do you know the German painter Carl Spitzweg? He preferred white umbrellas in his romantic paintings. Have a look and you will remark the effects.
Greetings from Germany where summer just began

Since I am from Cuttingsville I know Spring Lake well. Although it was in 40s and 50s when I and a number of local kids would go there for swimming lessons and just a swim.

Those days are in the distant past but the lake remains beautiful, quiet and scenic’

A beautiful part of Vermont and a wonderful memory of days in the past.
